This historic Tithe Barn is the largest surviving of its kind in Europe dating from around 1500. Built originally as part of the 14C Barton Farm, owned by Shaftes..."bury Abbey, to hold the taxes (tithes) from the local communities, but because it was so large, the manor allowed locals to over-winter their harvests, providing year-round abundance of farmed produce to the local inhabitants.
The timber framed cruck roof is original and very impressive from within the barn, which is now used for Shakespearean plays and classical concerts in the summer months.
Close to the Tithe Barn are contemporary and later buildings that have been restored.
