An email from 2008... Last week we visited Morpeth. Suddenly the sound of pounding hoofs filled the air and like a vision from the past a majestic Clydesdale mare with her wagon trotted by and stoped. Soon she was surrounded. “ Admiration can’t buy her food , hop on V take you for a ride” proclaimed the driver. Like stepping back in time we climbed on board. The big authentic looking carriage pulled by this powerful and loyal horse rumpled passed century old buildings. The pounding of her enormous hoofs the smell and snorting compelled us to reflect on our ancestors and the horse that build this Nation. Singing a song to the beat of the clip clop while holding the reins was the highlight for the children. For us Morpeth is simply the town where Juliet lives....Now 3 years later 15000 people who came for a ride agree, no other Town near Sydney offers such variety of unique stores ,restaurants ,historic buildings natural beauty and a Horse Carriage. Juliet and I are proud to contribute to the charm of Morpeth. Hop on and keep us on the job keep Morpeth look the part. Hay !

"Maitland Regional Art Gallery is a gallery that you definitely add to your regular viewing cycle. But where to begin?? The redesigned building is a wonderful example of an architect taking what is beautiful and old mixing in what is new and now and coming up with a functional art space with a wide ..."variety of viewing areas. The gallery attracts many of the major touring exhibitions as well as having faith in local projects and artists. At any moment you may find art, photography, ceramics or sculpture on view. The permanent collection, particularly works on paper, is wonderful. And the kids are always catered for with a permanent viewing space set aside for them; parents welcome too. To build on this there is always an interactive art happening linked to the kids exhibition that invites the kids to show their talent.
But there are more decisions. Do I visit the cafe before I view or do I wait till I have finished; maybe both? The choice may be to have a meal at a table or just...

"I am not usually into art galleries but visited because admission was free and I had time to kill. I was so pleasantly surprised that Maitland has an art gallery of such high calibre. I enjoyed looking at the interesting and outstanding artworks in different mediums, all in air-conditioned comfort. ..."I was impressed with the imaginative ways they presented the different exhibits. The heritage building where the gallery is housed was magnificent.
The gift shop located near the entrance was well-stocked with beautiful, unique and high quality merchandise. There was also a café which was filled with customers while we were there. Parking is at the back of the building.
Thank you to the friendly and very helpful volunteer at the info desk who took the time to explain the different sections of the exhibits. Wish I remembered his name.

"The attempt to blend old and new makes for interesting architecture in this place... the shop always has unusual items and of course the exhibitions often punch well above their weight for a regional museum. The cafe is also great."
