Princeville Botanical Gardens (formerly Ahonui Botanical Gardens) is a family owned and operated garden paradise located in the Princeville area of Kaua'i. The Robertson Family, with the help of their close gardening friend, have transformed their 8 acre retirement home into a breathtaking garden with dramatic landscaping in two steep valleys. The Robertsons grow a small cacao (chocolate) grove and process their own homemade dark chocolate. Part of every tour is a short chocolate tasting and lesson on how the family makes their chocolate. The fun, educational tours of the garden include ethnobotanical and medicinal uses of plants, stories and information about native Hawaiian and "canoe" plants, and much more about a diverse collection of species from around the world.Visits to our garden are by APPOINTMENT ONLY. "Drop-ins" will be turned away and asked to book a reservation on one of our guided tours. Please call us before visiting.

Doug and Sandy have been giving authentic Hawaiian slack key guitar and ukelele concerts twice a week at Hanalei Community Center since 1999. They're a standard attraction and an excellent way for visitors to learn about the history of Hawaii's slack key music as well as old stories that inspired the music - Sandy also relates some of the cultural connections of the survival of this native Hawaiian music. Their primary purpose is to make people aware of the history and cultural importance of this type of music. Concerts are one of the most affordable things to do on Kauai and appeal to both the individual visitor as well as to groups or families.

NTBG’s McBryde Garden and Allerton Garden are located on the south shore of Kauai in the picturesque Lawai Valley. Individual tours of each garden run daily and include a ride from the Visitors Center in Poipu along a scenic coastal route and continue along the valley rim on a former sugarcane train railbed. Visitors disembark on the valley floor to explore these outstanding gardens. McBryde, NTBG’s flagship garden, is home to the world’s largest collection of native Hawaiian flora, many endangered or having gone extinct in the wild. It is a “botanical ark”, filled with palms, flowering trees, ornamental flowers, and unusual plants from the tropical world. Allerton is a former private estate, named by National Geographic Traveler magazine as one of the 50 places to see in a lifetime. Plants form the walls of outdoor rooms, the canopy of trees the ceiling. Housed within are elegant statuary and water features. A popular spot for photos is the ‘Jurassic trees’, with their massive curving roots.National Tropical Botanical Garden is a nonprofit institution, dedicated to saving and studying tropical plants.
