We had an incredible 6-day safari with Tanzania Horizon Safaris! Our group of 6 explored the magical Mara River at the Tanzania-Kenya border, and it was beyond words. Our guide, Sabas, was the heart of our adventure, sharing his knowledge and passion for wildlife. From lions to giraffes, every moment was a thrill. Sabas's expertise and friendly demeanor made the journey unforgettable. The accommodations were comfortable, and the food was delicious. We stayed at Mara Kati Kati camp in Tanzania and Sopa Lodge on the Kenyan side. A big shoutout to Sabas for making our safari a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If you're dreaming of an amazing safari you shouldnt miss Mara region and the Mara river

We spent three days as part of a tour group staying at the Mara Serena Safari Lodge, with jeeps and drivers provided by our tour agency. The Mara Triangle was such a beautiful place, so quiet and serene, and you could see for miles. We saw many desert date trees silhouetted against the sunset and rain showers in the distance toward the escarpment.
The animals we saw in the Mara Triangle included: hippopotamus in the Mara River; red-headed rock agama; banded mongoose; elephant; eland; spotted hyena; lion; cape buffalo; impala; topi; Thomson’s gazelle; plains zebra; Maasai giraffe; olive baboon; defassa waterbuck; warthog; Nile crocodile; cheetah; leopard; blue wildebeest. Birds we saw included: white-bellied bustard; ostrich; lappet-faced vulture; black-headed heron; grey heron; black crake; secretarybird; lilac-breasted roller; grey crowned crane; yellow-billed oxpecker; red-billed oxpecker; white-browed Coucal; Marabou stork; red-necked spurfowl; hamerkop; brown snake eagle. On a pre-dawn drive to our hot air balloon excursion, we saw a puff adder crossing the road. From the balloon we saw a lot of wildlife and a great view of the Mara River.
One morning our driver stopped for a while to let us watch different family groups of elephants travel from the mountains to the river. He said they do this every day. We counted at least 75 elephants while we sat there. As one group would pass us, we would look back and see another group coming along. We saw a lot of baby elephants in these caravans.
Then he moved the jeep so we could look down into the Mara River and watch the hippopotamus. There were at least 23 of them there.
One afternoon we watched two cheetahs (our driver said they were probably brothers) stalk and chase warthogs. The warthogs disappeared into a hole in the ground and escaped. Then we stopped to watch a leopard stalk an impala.
Another afternoon our driver took us off-road (this is allowed in certain sections of the reserve) and drove up to a rock under a sycamore-fig tree where a male lion was lying on top of the rock, and another was lying on the ground nearby. Later we saw some female lions and cubs with a zebra carcass.

Our stay at the cottages was indeed very special and memorable. The staff were very professional and friendly. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. George and Evalyn were fantastic guides! Evalyn is the first female guide in Porini, and a very knowledgeable one too!! There was so much game and the conservancy in all its beauty was incredible! The sun downer, breakfast in the bush, the nature walk...all so special! Chef William was amazing too! He made a gluten free cake for our daughter which really was ...the icing on the cake.
    A GREAT PLACE!

The Giraffes here are so graceful and peaceful. We drove very close to them and were able to watch as close as 3 metres from the van.
    Beautiful!

A stay in the Mara would not be complete without a visit to Musiara. Providing it hasn't rained and made the tracks impassable, it's worth spending some time there. The bird life can be amazing and if you venture down to the banks of the Mara river going through the woodland you may be treated to the sight of elephant families crossing.
A "bush" breakfast is an ideal opportunity to sit and watch. Let wildlife come to you!

Multiple cheetahs, elephant tuskers, dwarf and banded mongoose, large number of giraffe, multiple lion prides, multiple leopards and herds of hooved animals. Enough said.

This is great place to learn more about traditional decorations of Maasai Peopole and other ethnic in Kenya. They also have lovely souvenir shop (everything is made by local women) with resonable prices.
    Visit here is great experience!

This is what we thought of when we envisioned Africa – broad plains with tall grass and taller trees, and animals grazing everywhere you looked.

But it is dotted with clumps of trees and that is also a good place to find resting and feeding animals.

We were really lucky to explore two cheetahs at a very close distance. We saw a massive herd of elephants, enjoying in the swamp and zebras.
