Directions; from the end of the night market road (Post Office end) turn left at the cross roads. Straight on until you reach 'T' junction then turn right. Go straight on out of town for about 4Km's and turn right where sign posted 'Tad Thong Waterfall' for a further 2.8Km's.The 500 hectare Tad Thong Nature Conservation area is easily accessible by Tuk Tuk, Car, Scooter, bicycle (geared preferably) or, for the more enthusiastic, on foot.Tad Thong is just 6km’s from Luang Prabang and offers a unique, paved, approx. 45 minute walk through dense jungle. For years the path has been hidden away from the public but is now open again for you to experience the beauty of the natural jungle and huge trees that once covered much of the land in this part of Asia. There is a Khmu village just off the trail which can be visited and when you have finished the walk you may wish to take a swim in the lake or eat and drink at the Restaurant. The waterfalls are spring fed, as are many of the falls in the area, and will reduce in size to just a trickle by the end of the dry season - but the Tad Thong area is more impressive as a Nature Jungle walk so the waterfalls should be looked at as a bonus and not the main reason for visiting.

Artisans du Mekong is a haven for visitors to Luang Prabang. Conveniently located across the Nam Khan, in Ban Nong Xai, or the area locally known as "the paper village", it can be easily reached by automobile, bicycle or even by foot from the downtown area. Re-opened and re-invigorated July 2012, there is a retail store supporting Lao communities, Ma Te Sai, as well as Artisans du Mekong showroom representing Lao and regional artisans. A gallery space has changing exhibitions showcasing local culture and traditions. Our courtyard cafe is a great place to relax, serving fair trade lao coffee, noodle soups, baguettes and home-made cake and ice-cream. Unique local products are made on site, one workshop is devoted to creating Spirit Houses and one soon to be home of Na Xao Botanicals.

"Excellent and Interesting Colllection, a must see. Be warned it is not air conditioned so this isn't a place to 'cool off'. and you can't carry water with you!"
"The elephant village is a real sanctuary - not only for the elephants, but we also felt the calm and peaceful atmosphere right from the start. The elephants seem to be treated really well and make a healthy and playful impression. We've booked a half day trip which was already very exciting - riding..." the elephants, talking to the mahout and riding 'mahout style' were just great.
