Luodai is an ancient town just outside Chungdu. The buildings date back to the 1600's. The main street is 1km long with ancient buildings on either side containing shops, craftsmen and restaurants. There are a number of dress and costume shops where people dress up to have their photo taken. It is easy to reach by either bus or taxi from Chengdu. The journey is c. 20km and takes about 45-60 mins. On a Sunday it is busy with local torists. Many of the shops and street vendors are of the native Hakka tribe. Well worth a visit for half a day.

"This was very loud and crowded and simply a great place to people watch. People were playing music, dancing, flying kites and practicing tai chi. So much to take in, but definately something to see if you want to taste the Chinese life."
"My daughter, friend (who lives in Shanghai) and I toured Chengdu with Haba as our guide. Chengdu was our second city in our tour of China. Haba was very knowledgeable of the local sights historical and current. He was sure to include much of China's history and how Chengdu and area fit in. During th..."e rest of the trip, often we noticed examples of the facts and history Haba shared with us. Haba's itinerary for us was custom to our interests and days we visited Chengdu. We did a city tour, walked to city parks & monuments, rode the new subway, visited the amazing Giant Pandas, Qincheng Mountain (back-side).Haba's english is excellent, he is very polite and was always on time and waiting for us.

Giant Panda Breeding Research Base (Xiongmao Jidi)
"Visited the Breeding Centre during business trip and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the place. Having seen pandas in Beijing Zoo (and not being overly impressed by the enclosures there - or the extra charge on zoo entry to see them) this place was a much more fitting place for these cute..." creatures.
Set amid fairly dense forest in a very naturalistic fashion, the various enclosures hardly seem like enclosures at all and allow great opportunities to see the black and white bears close up.
There are shops and informative signs, as well as a small cinema showing a film about the breeding and conservation efforts at the base which is very interesting,
Definitely worth a visit!
