"We arrived late, right as the Steam Logger was pulling out, so I figured that we had missed our window of opportunity to take a ride through the pines. As it turned out, they took us on the Jenny Railcar and we were able to catch up with the logger, and complete the rest of the tour.
Make sure t..."o check out the museum building where you can see photos of the Flume that the loggers would often ride back down into town. There is also a nice gift shop where you can buy train memorabilia and snacks.
My favorite part, however, turned out to be the gold panning lesson. I thought it was very interesting and super fun, and it's amazing how the panning actually works. This experience was definitely worth the price, and you get to take whatever gold you pan home with you!
By the way, I am not a train person, and I still thought this was a worthwhile stop on the way into Yosemite.

"This is a very fun little ride in a big forest. Pulled by a classic oil burning steam engine, the trip through the forest takes about an hour to complete including a stop for water along the way. You can ride in open, covered cars, or in seats created by a very large split tree (see photos). Alon..."g the way you learn interesting facts about the history of the Sugar Pine Railroad and the logging operations that it supported. At one point, as you go up a steep grade, you almost feel like you will have to get out an push, but good old no. 10 eventually makes it up the hill and takes you back to the station.
At the station you can visit a museum, peruse and bookstore and gift shop, and even pan for gold! The entire place is made for kids and their parents. It is an enjoyable day out for everyone.

"I enjoyed riding in the open air seating area, looking up at the canopy of trees. The ride was just long enough to get a feel for what the loggers might have experienced. I think it would be nice to go back for one of their special events."
