  "We pulled over to spend the night in Fruita, Colorado and the next morning found out about this little gem of a National Park. It's about 23 miles along the Rim Rock Drive from the Fruita side to the Grand Junction side. A stop at the Visitors Center is a must. Watch the little video about John Otto...", the man who was responsible for these beautiful canyons, rock formations and vertical cliff walls becoming a part of the National Park system in 1911. He was the first to climb it's peaks including the 450 ft. high Independence Monument, where he climbed and placed an American flag on the top on the 4th of July and he explored the entire area on foot and horseback. He built miles of tortuous trails through the park so others could enjoy the beauty. There are numerous places to pull out and take pictures and each view has information about what you are seeing.   "We visited a bunch of vineyards in the wine country here, and on the whole were impressed with the quality of the wines. However, I don't like to buy wine at vineyards that is not as good as the wine I can buy at the store for the same price. We did find a few vineyards in the area that had wines ..."that we would buy, but most seemed a little pricy considering what you can find elsewhere. Whitewater Hill was an exception, because their wines were very well made, quite good, and priced in a range where they are a bargain compared to what you find on the shelf at your local wine shop. Add to this the fact that they are in a picturesque location and give a nice tasting, and this winery is a must-visit if you are in the area. " More >
