"My husband Hugh and I first visited Akrotiri 16 years ago when it had already been under excavation for almost 26 years. We found an astonishing world of Minoan culture being excavated under rough roofs of aluminum sheeting supported by wooden poles. At that point, some of the murals were still in ..."situ, with others being in the museum in Athens. When we paid our 5 Euros to visit this time, the site is in a magnificent fully enclosed new building with raised and lowered walkways, allowing you to walk above and through the site. Much more has been excavated. There is a cafe and public toliets to make the visiting experience more comfortable. Unfortunately there were no guided tours being offered when we arrived, probably due to our visit being during the off season. Take a tour if you can as much has been learned about the site that really enriches the experience of visiting Akrotiri. However, the Akrotiri experience is always impressive even if you must do it on your own, as it ...

"The weather wasn't the best, over cast and windy but panos still managed to make our day special. He is very knowlageable about the island and is a great cook. It was far to cold for swimming however we jumped at the chance too swim into the hot springs at first it's cold but as you swim closer to ..."the centre it gets very warm. Definitely glad that we had the chance to experience this. Overall it was a great day and we would recommend it to anyone wanting more info about the volcanic island and also a great day out of the water with good sights to see.

"My wife and I arranged a 3-hour private hire of the 33 foot long speed-boat 'Alex'. The boat can accommodate up to 6 people. The skipper was Panagiotis Kantargis (known as Panos for short). He collected us at Ammoudi Bay in Oia for an evening sunset tour. He did a wonderful job of taking us around t..."he Caldera, telling us the history and pointing out the key features and villages. The boat is fast so you don't waste time getting from one sight to another. He stops so you can swim in the hot springs, and creates a great meal on board, with local Santorini wine. Viewing the sunset was magical. Panos was well organised, and kept us informed by phone, text and email. Highly recommended - the trip was a highlight of our holiday.
