Wonderful views of the dam and surrounding forest, but not much else. More info on the workings of the dam would have been great.

Worth a visit if passing through Zeehan. A bit of a dirt track up to the tunnel. Interesting history of tunnel.

Climies Track just outside of Zeehan on the West Coast is great. There are plenty of challenging sections of the track and the landscape is just beautiful. Climies Track is a regular visit for us when we visit the West Coast.

Mt. Zeehan is a little off the usual path that many tourists don't seem to know or write about.
The track can be a little hard to find thought the views are breathtaking.

This is a bit of an adventure trail for walkers and mountain bikers wanting to do some exploring on a historic track.
The trail is relatively isolated, not used extensively, riders and hikers should be aware it is not a managed track but is very off the beaten track.
Sections of this trail are excellent and located in a beautiful environment, particularly in summer. There are links to Montezuma Falls and Williamsford thereby extending the cycling experience.

Fantastic example of Tasmanian West Coast rugged bush.
One can imagine the challenges the early explorers had in opening up the Tasmanian wilderness.
    Worth a visit

This small Gothic style weatherboard clad church has evidently been spruced up for its 130th anniversary in 2021. Certainly looks freshly painted and is one of the oldest weatherboard churches in Tasmania dating to 18+91 when the foundation stone was laid. I believe that its also the last functioning church in Zeehan. The bell tower is located near the entrance. The gravestone of Fr Joseph Cullen is inscribed in Gaelic on the arms of the cross. Nearby a plaque to Sister Eustelle Clery who died in Zeehan in 1906.

A number of the old buildings in the town of Zeehan are very interesting and well maintained and the post office (erected in 1888) is one of the best with its pale blue and cream paint work. Zeehan commenced as Mount Zeehan in 1882 with the finding of silver and lead and was renamed Zeehan in 1890. By 1910 there were 10,000 people in the town but today you would be lucky to see anyone. Great buildings however and worthy of a visit.

I have visited this cemetery a handful of times over the years and always found it an interesting , scenic and quiet place to visit (even though it is just off the road out of Zeehan to Strahan !!). The biggest issue in the past was that the place seemed unmaintained and it seemed like many graves had disappeared under the shrubs !!

My most recent visit was even more enjoyable though as in recent times a local person who I think also does guided tours of the cemetery has been working very very hard to reduce some of the out of control plants.

The pioneer cemetery is an even better place to visit now, with a welcome sign, a better defined parking area, new bench seating and it is so obvious that lots of landscaping work has been done there are so many more accessible grave sites now.

If you love an old timers cemetery would recommend this one.

If you are visiting for family history purposes, this cemetery covers internments from 1891 to 1930. There is an overlap with the current general cemetery which was established in 1913.

** Please note this TA listing says cemetery is on Trial Harbour Road, the Pioneer cemetery is on the B27 Henty Road to Strahan. The cemetery on Trial Harbour Road is the current general cemetery that is still in use. There is a crossover in dates and you will find some earlier 20th century graves here too. **

The small white painted memorial with plaque and cross is located in front of the RSL. It was erected to commemorate those who died in both world wars and has a number of smaller plaques added for subsequent campaigns. The RSL Memorial Garden honours those who served in the various conflicts involving Australian Service Men & Women.
