The South Carolina State Museum is filled with the best of the state's history, science and technology, art and natural history. Science demonstrations, hands-on exhibits, fine art and a children's center make this one of the top family attractions in the state. Sit in a replica of an1830s steam engine, gaze at a 43 foot model of a prehistoric white shark, step into a one room schoolhouse - it's always fun at the State Museum!

"This is just a nice simple place to come and relax, hike or bike. The grounds appear well maintained and the trails are fairly well marked. There are many times, however, when we’ve gone there and found the facilities all locked up. I don’t know what that’s all about. There should be someone there a..."t all times during park hours.
We’ve noticed that there are many families who avail themselves of the grounds for family activities, sports and cook outs. My wife and I usually pack a nice picnic lunch that we enjoy in the park after church on Sundays. And we never forget to bring a few extra pieces of bread for the ducks and geese. Enjoy, have fun and God bless.

"We didn't have nearly enough time to get the full experience. This is a fabulous museum. Very well done! We flew to Columbia and stopped at the museum before heading to our final destination of Myrtle Beach. I wish we had more time to fully appreciate the regular exhibits and to see the special Maya..." exhibit. I also called a curator prior to our trip before the visit to find out if a specific family ancestry Civil War item was still on display and she was extremely kind and helpful!

"A wonderful museum. Interesting exhibits. We found the interactive exhibits and had so much fun, we didn't want to leave!. We only managed to tour 2 floors, both interesting and informative. If in the area, we would surely return. There is a Children's Museum next door and it looked like a lot of..." fun for kids - and adults. We didn't have time to visit there, but would have liked to spend some time there.
