One of the most magnificent of Britain's castles is the "birth place of the Tudor Dynasty." You can climb the 80ft Great Keep, descend into a pre-historic cave and look down into a prisoner in a medieval dungeon. There is also a cafe and gift shop. During school holidays there are falconry displays, historic re-enactments and family entertainment. The main exhibition rooms display models and weaponry as well as telling the story of the history of the castle. You can also visit the room that King Henry VII the founder of the Tudor Dynasty was born.

"Worth the hike up from the car park. We visited over the bank holiday weekend and were entertained by an excellent falconry display in the castle grounds. As you'd expect with an old castle there are many narrow steep spiral stairs to climb and walks on the walls that aren't ideal if you don't lik..."e heights, but there's also plenty to see at lower levels.

"This is a wonderful place and so accessible; there are hundreds of yards of tunnels and staircases which take you all over the ruin. I was surprised at the access you are given so you do have to read the warnings at the entrance and you do have to hold the handrail especially on the spiral staircase..."s. You can visit Wogan's cave and there are excellent displays and videos in the gatehouse. I was surprised that the route from the official car park wasn't more clearly marked and you do seem to have to take your life in your hand crossing the road twice to get there. The ramp opposite the car park seems a much better bet and takes you through a closer and cheaper car park if you can find a space. The coffee shop is excellent and produced an excellent cup of coffee and baguettes. There is so much to see; I think you could easily spend the better part of a day there. Final warning; some of the life size figures are really spooky. There were one or two who I'm sure were watching me.......
