The track/trail is still uncompleted in a few places (Didn't affect our fun) but what has been completed is Gold Star surface.The scenery is breathtaking. Friendly people along the trail who helped us out with cy..."clists packed lunches, serviced accommodation, in house dinner or transport to a local restaurant at night.You are cycling through very remote areas with low populations and as yet in some places not much in the way of services for cyclists/tourists so you need to be prepared and plan your rest/overnight and food stops carefully.There is not a lot to choose from in some places but that is the beauty of New Zealand after all! Don't change too much. We chose to spend 4 nights in Oamaru at the end of our trip which was a highlight - the town is lovely, historic and the Blue Penguin trip a "must do" .
