Terwillegar Park is a park undergoing a transformation. After a lengthy public consultation, the park will be maintained in a natural ... more »state with improved parking and trails. The River Valley Alliance (RVA) in partnership with the City of Edmonton, is proposing two pedestrian bridges to be built on each side of the park to improve connectivity and further the RVA plan of action.
Terwillegar Park is also home to one of the largest off-leash dog parks in the area. The Park is well maintained, is intersected with walking and mountain bike trails everywhere you go and the connectivity to the surrounding neighbourhoods is very good.
Entering Terwillegar, there is a gravel parking lot which opens into a very large and open green space. The Park is an off-leash area for pets and is very popular with pet owners. There are many trails inside the park and the main path east takes you through the open area with nice views of the opposing riverbank. The trail swings around and heads east past a stretch of beach and a lookout over the river.
After a short break, the walk enters a forested area with a number of bike trails and opportunites for wildlife photos. You can carry on the bike trails or head back to the main trail which takes you to the neighbourhood connectivity points. There is a steady elevation change in this section of the walk.
Heading back to the main parking area you will pass through a very nice trail area that is very popular with walkers and bikers. Overall, this is a moderate hike with some elevation changes once you enter the forested areas. You can avoid this and simply cut back to the main area. less «
