Idless woods is about 2.8 miles long and located just outside of Truro, United Kingdom. The trail is great for walking.
Good fun this... more » one and nice for all to get out together. Finn brought his bike so we couldn't get off the path as much as we would normally. It was a really nice autumnal day, some wind, occasional drizzle but under the canopy we stayed dry. Spotted zero moving wildlife which was hardly surprising with Thomas running in wellies, Finn popping wheelies and Harry just being Harry we were lucky to even spot the earthballs. Loads of them. Huge. But no other fungi.
The main path is well laid and as we walked along the stream we discovered the abandonned workings of a gunpowder factory. We'd see them last time on a walk with Anna and Matt. We couldn't work out what the buildings were. Tiny clay driers? Panning site? Thanks to some extensive keybord work Anna tracked down the only reference to them. There's also an overgrown hillfort with its own trees growing in it. Amongst all the pines and beeches there is this little collection of old gnarlled trees growing up through the fort.
There's also a fairly surprising collection of Eucalyptus trees, part of a Forestry commision experiment. It didn't work. less «
