The current trails were mainly development by the Margaret River Offroad Cycling Association (MRORCA) as part of the 2011 Cape to Cape... more » mountain bike race. The result is a set of a dozen or so short, fun trails linked by signed dirt roads which mainly provide the gentle climbs.
With the easy climbs and smooth rollable trails the Pines are suitable for riders of all abilities. For the intermediate to more advanced riders there are plenty of berms to rail and table tops to jump - especially on The End.
You will find yourself riding back up to the middle of the forest time and time again to re-ride your favourite trails.
The trails are located just to the North of Carters Rd, which itself is the first turn to the left (west) when leaving Margaret River to the north.
There is a small car park on Carters Rd just before the rail trail crossing. Or park at the Rotary car park on the north side of town or it is not far to ride from your accommodation if staying in town - particularly if you are near the rail trail.
There is no set order to ride the trails in, and once you get a feel for the forest you will devise your own loops based on which track you prefer. However to get you started here is a fairly common route:
Take Ashton Rd up the west side of the forest
Just after the Off The Grid sign - turn left on to the singletrack
At the top of the short climb take Echo Rd East
Turn right on to the unmarked singletrack which turns in to
Ride up and have a go on the table tops of The End
Take Noodle Bowl back to Fox Rd
Take the Dirt Jump and Pine Tree Trail back to the rail trail and then road less «
