The best way up to the Christo Redentor is by cog train which has a steep ascent through the rain forest. Go early or late to beat the crowds.

2. The Christo Redentor

The statue of Christ the Redeemer is 39.6 metres tall, including 9.5 metres pedestal, and 30 metres wide. It weighs 635 tonnes. This symbol of Christianity has become an icon of Rio and Brazil. It was constructed between 1922 and 1931 in concrete and soapstonand on the basis of a model sculpted by French sculptor Paul Landowski.
