Got a gorgeous ribeye steak that was absolutely perfect. The server Cian was so kind and accommodating as the place was really busy and he managed to get us a table. He took our order perfectly and delivered our food. Such a nice young lad. Would highly recommend this restaurant to my friends. 10/10

My Mother in Law stayed here for 3 nights, 14,15 & 16 October. The service she received was faultless. My wife and I joined her for dinner on her last night and we all agreed that the quality of food and service were exceptional. A special mention for “Shane”, who was managing things front of house: he made us feel valued and was exceptional in the consideration and service provided.

We stayed in the Gateway Hotel in Swinford in August for a wedding. From the moment we checked in we felt relaxed and nothing was too much bother while staying at this hotel. We unfortunately were caught up in the air traffic control issue on the way back and our flight was cancelled and we were delayed for a couple of days. Collette on the front desk was amazing in helping us get a room for two extra nights; keeping an eye on the flights for us; helped us arrange transport. I have to say all the stress and frustration we were feeling, Collette made disappear with her professional warm and kind manner. Nothing was ever too much trouble. The Gateway hotel is a hidden gem in the west of Ireland. The staff were amazing, friendly and went the extra mile.

We had a great experience with the Gateway hotel- from checking in with the lovely Stephen he could not have been more accommodating and kept us and our aunties in craic. He not only checked us in, he took dinner orders, served our dinner and THEN was also doing the bar til late so the man deserves a payrise!! :-) Will def visit again if were ever through Swinford Food was gorgeous! Bar was cosy- just a overall enjoyable trip Keep up the great work!

We have stayed at The Gateway Hotel, for many years, We arranged our booking with Colette, who was warm, friendly, exceptional, very accommodating all round. I could see that she works very hard in her role. The rooms were clean and spacious. The breakfast and the dinner staff, everyone was working really hard, and not forgetting the Kitchen, the tasty foods.. ( Sorry I don't know all of their there names, who I'm sure had wings, the flying about they did looking after everyone), some staff were working on their own. Would like to mention Stephen, Michael, the late bar staff, who looked after us too. At dinner, there was a staff member Shane, he really delivered exceptional Customer Service, he reminded me of the previous owner, who was very respected when he owned the premises.

Oh, where do I begin? My first contact with the Gateway was when I called from the United States to arrange accommodations for myself and my travel companion, my 83-year- young Auntie. I spoke with Collette; she was so friendly and accommodating I couldn't wait to meet her in person. She did not disappoint, nor did the Gateway staff in the restaurant, the pub, and housekeeping. The room was clean and comfortable, the food was delicious, and the staff was always pleasant and cheerful. They made us feel like part of the family. It must be something in the Swinford water because when we stepped outside, the shopkeepers and folks walking down the street were also cheerful and helpful as we began searching for my grandmother's family home that she left in the early 1900s as a young girl headed for America. Since I was a small child, my grandmother told stories of her thatched-roofed cottage in Graffey Killaser, Swinford. I want to thank Tom Lavin for listening to our story and making phone calls connecting us with a cousin who took us directly to the family cottage. Indeed, it was a dream come true. We thank the Swinford folk and the Gateway Family for welcoming us home.

The hotel itself is fine, no real frills but the rooms are fine if you need to go to swinford for any reason. The food is also good. If it were me I would turf out half of the staff. I won’t mention names but some of them are useless and stealing a wage. Particularly the late night staff and some of the waitresses. The bar man / waiter who served us was very good but the others are miserable. We arrived home late and looked for water. There was one barman who ignored us and was very rude. Then another staff member was there having a late drink with some random girl and disappeared to cook finger food for her! You couldn’t make it up! That’s what you get for €150 a night!
