This 'pub with rooms' is the closest to Hampden House , a venue for weddings and the like. As such it is surely in demand and for that they charge GBP115 for bed and breakfast. Our room was clean and well furnished but very small. Indeed, one has to take care not to burn oneself on the bathroom radiator when... More

Stayed on a Saturday night, the room was lovely , cosy but mind your head! The building is 15th century and is full of character and has been nicely refurbished. Nice garden as well. Staff efficient on arrival, the reception area is the bar so be prepared to wait if its busy. It is on a fairly busy road so... More

We recently had Saturday lunch at The Nags Head and we were hugely impressed at the quality of the food, the imagination that had gone into the dishes and the friendliness of the service which was just right, not too rushed or too slow. It is fine dining rather than pub food, and excellent fine dining at that.

Extensively promoted as Roald Dahl's local and with some lovely original illustrations from his books on the walls, The Nags promised much although my secret wish to possibly meet his daughter Tessa was unfulfilled... We were there in a family group for two nights, me, the missus and parents in law who are in their late '70s. Reception and staff... More

We booked for a Saturday night for 8pm. Arrived just before 8pm and choose to have a drink in the bar which was really nice and relaxed. It was great to see a place so busy and this created a great atmosphere. When we were ready we were shown to our table and perused the menu. Great choices and the... More

We spent a weekend at The Nags Head for our anniversary. The room was comfortable if a little compact and as we were over the rear entrance and kitchen it was a bit noisy. Breakfast on both mornings was lovely and the three course dinner on the Friday night was truely fabulous. Saturday night was markedly busier and the food... More

We stayed as a family for 4 nights over the Easter weekend. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The rooms were comfortable and clean, although one of the rooms was over the bar so a little noisy. Views from the rooms were of the rolling Chiltern Hills, and its only a 2 minute drive into Great Missenden, where... More

I've been here several times and the food is consistently of high quality, although the menu is very geared to a dinner experience rather than lunch - they don't really offer any lighter dishes. Having said that, there is a good choice of food and it is certainly a cut above average pub food. On our 2 most recent visits,... More

Our second visit and equally enjoyable. A warm welcome from friendly staff (can I comment that I don't think shorts, even black ones, constitute restaurant uniform). A varied delicious menu, not limited to the usual roasts most pubs serve on Sundays. My sticky toffee pudding was a larger than normal portion, very generous! We weren't rushed to finish, just a... My husband and I went to the Nags Head for dinner last week to celebrate a special birthday. The staff could not have been more welcoming - the Polish waitress in particular was absolutely charming, and the food was excellent. We will certainly return.
