The location is spectacular. Beautiful fresh water lagoon. Lots of archeological Mayan sites in the area, great for day trips. Lots of activities (kayak, boat trips, catamaran, paddling boards), fun for kids, very peaceful. Nicely run hotel, friendly staff. Full review on my web site .

The laguna and the bungalows are definately stunning. But the attention to detail is missing. Its too expensive for what you get. Food is ok, wine is really not good. We brought our own wine and were offered to "park" it in the restaurant fridges which we found very nice (as bungalows only have electricity at night - Eco friendly...).... More

First time in Mexico, visited Akalki, in lake Bacalar. Heavenly!!!Location, the beautiful huts with your private deck a step from the lagoon. Very comfortable bed and pillows, nice honey sampoo and chocolate soap. Very friendly staff, wi fi in common areas, and location, location, location. It's hard no to relax and fall in love!

The place is amazing, right on the beautiful laguna. The white lagune sand gives it an amazing turquoise color. The water is shallow. First of all: it took them 4 days for their reception/reservations staff to reply to us via e-mail that they could not give us a cabaña: we were told at that time (3-4 monts ago) that the hotel was going to be entirely reserved for a group on the week we wanted to come. This place was designed to fit perfectly into its natural surroundings. The rooms are set up in various cabin like structures our room being in a kind of treehouse feel on the second floor( most all other were single story ) we loved it with a beautiful view of the surrounding vast landscape . The Resort with its cabins with direct access into the lagoon makes you feel you are in Bora Bora or Mauritius with the most beautiful water colors that i have ever seen. Absolutely amazing. The staff, the hospitaly, the food was top. I strongly recommend anyone to vidit Bacalar and specially Akalki Hotel.
