After visiting the ruins of Clonmacnoise, we found Ely House where we spent our next to last night of our two week visit to Ireland and Northern Ireland. Brian and his wife were amazing hosts. Brian wrote a wonderful little book on Clonmacnoise which we highly recommend. It is historically accurate and very accessible with great art work. We were... More

Another night, another wonderful b&b. If you're looking for the craic look no further than Ireland's b&b owners... Have to admit, not the best we've visited but the others set a high bar; the en-suite was a lttle jaded. I got the feeling Brian was stretched a bit thin at the moment, but you couldn't ask for a better host,... More

Stayed with Dympna and Brian for a short family break and had a wonderful time. The warm welcome we received was great after a long drive. Offers of tea and cake were a lovely homely touch. The rooms are a good size and spotless. Breakfast, by Brian, was a delicious freshly cooked breakfast. Nothing could have been any bother to either... More

A group of 5 friends stayed at Ely house in May 2012. The B&B was very comfortable and the village of Shannonbridge is beautiful and has some great pubs with live music, and nearby Clocmanoise is very interesting. The only difficulty we had was finding somewhere to eat as the town's only restaurant (which is supposed to be very good)... More

The rooms are definitively worn out and need refurbishment. However, the host is very friendly and the price is OK. A place to stay visiting Clonmacnoise. An brilliant advice was having supper at the local village taverne (Killeens) - a typical Irish Pub - a wonderful place (5 min walking distance) for a family.

We came to Shannonbridge quite late and were greeted by friendly Brian, who sent us off to the pub (a great one) for dinner. The room was spotless and there was lots of hot water, with comfortable beds. The next morning, we were the last ones out but did not feel unwelcome in spite of our late arising. Breakfast was... We had a super time in Shannonbridge - we wanted to stay in a typical family run Irish B&B and Ely House proved to be perfect - reasonably priced, clean as a pin and conveniently located just outside of town within walking distance to Kileen's Pub where we watched Kilkenny defeat Tipperary for the All Ireland Hurling Championship. The locals... More

Absolutely spotless place - and in a good location in Shannonbrige. It was a quick jump over to the local pub where we had some nice Guinness pints. Free WIFI, clean as a whistle and comfy beds. Brian was an absolutely delightful host, and the breakfast was delicious! I would love to have the opportunity to come back. He also... More

Would normally never stay in a B&B, but that could be about to change. We were attending a wedding in the vicinity and booked this B&B for 2 nights. It was superb from start to finish. Brian and Dympna are wonderful hosts, the room was large and spotless. The delicious breakfast would put most hotels to shame. Killeens pub is... More
