I stayed here last weekend, the room was beautiful and very comfortable. The gardens were nice and had a lot of work put into them, they must have been magnificent in their day!! For a house with prices they charge, I would have thought the breakfast choice of full Irish (or a mixture) or eggs with smoked salmon was not... More

We stayed here, Kilmokea House, overnight in early March 2012. (Would love to have had two nights). It is a tranquil country house and the hosts Emma and Mark made us very welcome and went to alot of trouble to show us local attractions (such as Tintern abbey and the Hook head lighthouse) on a map. Their own garden is... More

We booked out the self catering accommodation to go away for my Dad's 70th. There were 11 of us including a 3 year old and 2 small dogs. We had a great time and used it as a base to visit local sites and amenities. Some of the highlights for us; Lovely welcome on arrival - personal and friendly. Rooms... More

I have delayed in writing this review as I can't quite put my finger on the cause of the mild disappointment we both felt. Maybe the brilliant website and the Hidden Ireland website led us to expect too much, but I notice a review from a couple of years ago that seems to express the same ambivalence. I can't escape... Just spent the weekend at Kilmokea House and had a wonderful time. Great hospitality from Emma & Mark and the staff. We stayed in the Rose Room, which was lovely and cosy with a fantastic view of the garden. We had two beautiful dinners, an amazing rack of lamb cooked perfectly and fantastic monk fish. The gardens are definetly worth... More

We booked the Coach House at Kilmokea because we were looking for luxury accommodations and wanted the spa, pool, gardens and rooms as advertised on the web site, and recommended by Karen Brown (on the cover) and Fodor's travel guides. The rooms were shabby (my bath had a bad odor coming from the shower drain and tepid water), the kitchen... More

At Kilmokea we welcome receiving constructive comments or critisms as we always try to do the best for our guests - hence dinner was brought over to their apartment at 10.00pm as the ladies had been travelling most of the day and had not eaten since lunch time - we also provided a late breakfast the next day - all... We were very disappointed with our self catering coach house. The location is somewhat out of the way but when we booked this place we knew that. The services were lacking on many levels. When we asked for firewood we were told to go to the barn and could only find logs 4-5 feet in length. Nothing chopped to fit... More

The comments in this report are written by a lady in the same self-catering group as the one that wrote the report on 1st October. As previously stated we welcome constructive critism but its very difficult to make amends when you're told everything is fine and then advised of some issues on checking out. Having bent over backwards to accommodate... More

We stayed for two enjoyable nights after picking Kilmokea House from the Hidden Ireland brochure. The place wasn't particularly hard to find by day, although it could have been a bit more of a challenge at night. We received a warm welcome on arrival from Mark Hewlett (who owns and runs Kilmokea with his wife Emma), and got a mini-tour... More

I stayed for one night in June - on my way back to Rosslare. The location is stunning - the house is stunning and gardens are beautiful. On reflection, and in comparison to other places I stayed in across Ireland, it was a tad expensive for what it was. I was on my way back to Rosslare to catch the... More

My wife and myself spent 2 nights at Kilmokea Country House. The house has an old world charm and we found it quite cosy and friendly and enjoyed chatting with the owners and some of the other guests. It was the end of October and so was very quiet. Th gardens are fantastic. Having been shown to our room, we... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
An 18th century Georgian stone rectory nestled on the shores of the River Barrow. The guest rooms have been lavishly decorated, and all have wonderful views over the formal walled garden. Seven acres of heritage gardens are tended for without using any chemicals. It is most labor intensive but the results are inspiring and beautiful. We have developed a new acre of potager, which produces organic produce for guests to enjoy in the house for dinner in our main dining room, and lunch in the Pink Teacup Cafe in the conservatory. The potager produces vegetables and herbs and also edible flowers. Visitors can purchase homemade fare, jam, marmalade, bread. Self-catering options available ... more   less
