The American Cafe & Hotel was a great place to stay. The rooms were large and comfortable and the location great (i.e. in the city centre) and a 2 minute walk from the ferry terminal. I stayed here three nights. The rooms were exceptionally comfortable and very large, with hot showers. There were some slight issues with the plumbing but nothing major. The reading lights were a good feature. The price of $20 for a single room seemed very reasonable. I was glad not to be stung for the full double room rate when traveling... More

I need not add anything to what others have already said. About places to eat, the pizza restaurant next door is excellent...one little secret...they somehow don't give you their fish menu. I had to ask for it and ordered their red snapper cooked in a special liqueur. It was simply delightful.

Simone and Bob, the owners, are an amazing couple. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them. Simone is a terrific cook and her lasagne is to die for! The owners are lovely and are grey for a quiet chat while the other staff were very nice too. We got a New York hot dog, a chicken sandwich, iced chocolate and a banana smoothie.
