As always I write my reviews with the wheelchair user in mind. This resort has thousands of trees which were planted by one of the original owners. Those are now large, mature trees. Woven around the site are roads which make it easy for the wheelchair user to get around but a strong helper to get you up some of... More

This is really a tale of two hotels, the West Wing vs. the East Wing. The West wing is on their website, the East is not. We were members of a wedding party that spent two nights at the hotel. When we arrived we were not allowed to check in before the remaining 50% of our accommodation was paid in... More

We booked the Presidential suite for one night as a special relaxing treat to ourselves. There was nothing presidential about our stay. the room itself was dusty, the bathroom had tiny bathtowels instead of bath sheets and there were no robes or slippers. one of the doors onto the balcony was broken, which my husband managed to fix by himself.... Having stayed here over December it was great to return and experience the hotel out of peak season. The staff are really helpful and go out of their way to try and make your stay a memorable experience. This place has huge potential but being a charitable trust I suspect that capital for investment purposes is an ongoing challenge for... More

Used Makaranga for business accommodation. It has been a challenging experience... Standard rates R1350 per day, but they usually discount to R950 during quiet times. At these rates, one expects pretty high standards, but they fail to deliver. On the first visit, the arrival was not particularly welcoming. Reception was very focussed on ensuring payment was made and that was... More

Wow, what a hidden gem. The art, persian carpets and amazing gardens with secret corners and waterfalls are definately my most favourite place in KZN. Food is EXCELLENT, service great. Rooms big and tastefully decorated

Makaranga is a truly unique experience. The setting is superb with magnificent gardens and well appointed rooms which are both spacious and well equipped. This hotel is probably best suited for long weekends or a romantic getaway rather than a long stay. Makaranga has a very large number of "day visitors" who seem to inundate the property to make use... More

Makaranga is amazing. This huge property boasting a stunning Botanical Garden in the middle of suburb, Kloof, Durban. Make sure you take a walk around the garden and take note of all the beatufil plants, trees and flowers. Walk up to the waterfall too. The rooms are huge, nicely decorated and very comfortable.
