We had been on the Island at primarily time share resorts for over 2 weeks on the Dutch section, and at the last moment cancelled a time share at the French section, (Anse Marselle) because when we visited, after a week on the Island, to see what it was like, I went snorkeling on the right side of the beach, and not only was there not any coral or any memorable fish, the water had fine white tissue paper floating in it, and algae. So we drove into Grand Case to see if we could find a place to stay. We did, so we cancelled the time share at Anse Marselle. We found a perfect little place called the Flamboyant Beach Villas which was near (2-8 minute walk) a lot of great restaurants. Some by the ocean, and some not, but they were all excellent, and some had the euro and the US buck at par. We drove through the gate, and the 1st thing we felt was total relaxation, something my wife and I thought we were having at the time shares. They were fun times, but also very regimented in someways, plastic in a way with money always somehow in the air. People just outside of the entrances at the time shares were always trying to get you to buy a time share, (even though we already exchange worldwide with our Whistler club Intrawest, through Interval). They were friendly though, and were not too invasive. We met Leanora who was cleaning a room near the office when we arrived, but she also made our reservation, after she showed us two different suites. A very low key and friendly woman. The 1 bdrm suite that we chose, (#1) was a little dated, (CRT television), but the kitchen was fully equipped, the TV turned out to be good with over 50 channels, and the queen bed was super comfy. There was also a nice bottle of wine on the kitchen table with two goblets. WIFI was free and worked well. The cost was $90 US, but it would go up after Dec 14th to $129 US. We stayed from Dec 3rd-7th. Summer rates start again on April 15th. Suite #1 was surprisingly large, with a walk in closet to hide our suit cases, and back backs in. We did not unpack due to our short stay. We had brought food with us from the time shares, but other than breakfast, ate at the restaurants constantly, (one night we went to 4 different restaurants having an appy or two and a glass of wine, but they were all so tempting, that we wanted to catch the flavour as at many as possible. The last night we went to a lArdoise (2 minute walk away) on the non beach side of the road, (Rue Petite Plage). It was very good, and the chef and lovely waitress made us a delicious special drink and dessert for free. We had an appy and a full course meal, and did not venture farther that night, because we were 100% satisfied). Back to the villa. The problem with the time share that we were at predominately (Oyster Bay resort) was that it had a lot of seaweed as it was on the windward side of the Island, (although it did not smell, and there were no bugs). So we used their nice Infinity pool, or drove 10 minutes to Orient Bay Beach, (big waves, good body surfing, and lots of activity). PWC, and wind surfers etc), but not great for swimming. However, the beach in front of Flamboyant Villas was a big surprise. Crystal clear water, smooth, perfect sand, but small beach, But you could walk on the perfect sand knee to waist high and do resistance exercises, or swim, and even the snorkeling to your right (two football field lengths away) by the rocks was as good if not better than Pinel Island, (supposed to have the best snorkeling, but not as good as Maui Hawaii). There was some lawn chairs under a shady large tree alongside the water. The views and sunsets were fantastic. We loved it there, and if we return to Saint Martin/Sint Marteen we will definitely make this location our destination. Last, we departed on a Tuesday, and one of the guests, (from France who had been staying there for 22 years), said that on Tuesday nights they have a meet and greet the other guests. That would have been nice too.…
