The coldest March in recent history found us in Mallart Cottage, which was very warm and snug, and a haven for the fishers of our party (who had to break the ice on Loch Naver to get the boat out). Cottage was well equipped for catering, with oven and microwave as well as that boon for the travelling family: a... More

I stayed with a group of friends on a Lands End to John O'Groats trip in old classic cars. We stopped off for sandwiches on our way to John O'Groats, a quick photo at the end of our big journey and back to the hotel for supper and a well deserved rest. 3 of us even managed a morning on... More

Passing through Altnaharra we stopped at the hotel to ask about coffee, and maybe something to eat. In the cosy and warm little lounge coffee and bacon rolls were produced quickly and were really enjoyed and extremely reasonably priced. We don't know what the rooms are like but the lounge, toilets and service were all a good standard. We would... More

We stayed at the hotel for three days. The staff were most helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The food was superb, they have a great chef. The location is out of this world, centrally located to tour the area. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we have re booked for a week next year. Just one slight niggle...shortage of... More

We enjoyed a cracking break at the altnaharra. The staff are very obliging, surroundings are great and the food is very good indeed for such a remote location. Nothing is to much trouble for them. I would describe the Hotel as traditional & a throw back to the great days of the Highland estates and Hunting lodges. A great location... More

Two of my friends and I recently spent a perfect sejour at the Altnaharra Hotel in the Scottish Hignlands for a little fishing and a little whisky sampling. The facility totally exceeded our expectations. With a perfect location perhaps 500m from Loch Naver the site offered an opportunity for hiking, cycling and of course fishing. We caught brown and sea trout... More

We stayed for 3 nights at the end of September and had a great time. The Hotel is remote and in a stunning location with fantastic scenery all around. The fishing was fantastic (even for a novice like me) and I managed to catch a 6lb salmon on Loch Naver (on the doorstep) with the help of Walter the excellent... More

We stayed for four nights while my partner tried his hand at loch fishing. The location is very remote in the heart of Sutherland and the clearance villages. Only half hour from coast beautiful white sandy beaches crashing waves and mountain backdrop. Hotel is an old sporting lodge recently acquired by present owners who are very keen to ensure an... Full of Scottish tartans and open firers this hotel is full of character and the food supplied by an outstanding chief is unbelievable good. The welcome is outstanding. It is also a fisherman's paradise. The local bar attached is also a mind of information
