The suites at Royal Mulu are huge, and outfitted very nicely. The grounds are beautiful, set amidst the tropical rain forest with the rooms and a boardwalk connecting them built on stilts. Unfortunately the rooms are equipped with Air Conditioning, which is comfortable but means that there are no windows with screens. And if you dare open your windows, you... More

Probably not going to add much to previous reviews. It is pretty difficult to review as it is in the middle of a major reconstruction. We were not made aware of this when we booked, but even if we had been, other options in Mulu are limited. The rooms are very tired indeed - they possibly looked in good shape... More

Please be aware that the Royal Mulu Resort is in a sad state of disrepair and has been undergoing renovations since Nov 2011. The pool and lounge have been demolished and are in early stages of re-construction. Half the buildings are closed for renovation and those that are open are in sad condition, e.g. weather worn, rotten casings around doors... More

This is the worst place I've ever stayed in all of my years of travel. It is under an extensive renovation project and should be completely closed until renovations are complete. The Marriott should be ashamed to have their name anywhere near this place until it reopens. I could not recommend anyone staying here! It is not safe, clean nor... More

Stayed one night. Big spacious room (double/twin room) and comfortable beds. Had a small balcony that looked out to the jungle but too many mosquitoes outside so we only sat there for a short while. Breakfast and dinner buffet style (there were 2 or 3 tour groups there, about 30 or so guests). Good food selection, after roughing it out... More

Mulu Caves are a sight to been seen and are guide Lucie was fantastic. The room was rustic and right near jungle canopy. Food was buffet and better than we had in more upmarket hotels on trip. They put on a cultural show in the evening which was a bit lacklustre but good atmosphere with guests cheering them on. Get... More

We stayed here in Nov 2011 and it was the first place we visited in Borneo. It looked like it used to be very luxurious but has become quite run down over the years. But the rooms were nice enough and the staff were all very friendly. There were only a few other people staying when we were there, but... More

I am pretty sure that this hotel was marvelous when it first opened. However, it has since aged and a bit rundown. Hotel currently is only at half capacity as they closed down a section, including pool/bar/restaurant area since Nov 2011 for a ca. 1.5 years conversion/renovation to a luxurious Marriott resort. The staff tries to make your stay as... More

The food was ordinary, the drinks over priced and the internet the most expensive in Asia or anywhere visited in the Pacific. There was no long house, archery, rock climbing, health centre(gym) swimming pool, spa, blowpipes and disappointingly no cultural show with dinner. There are holes in the ground all over the world. I have seen tropical rainforest before but... More

We stayed here for the first night of a 5 day trip through Mulu National Park. There are signs informing that an international hotelier will soon be taking over the property. This needs to happen soon. The swimming pool is empty. The riverside bar is closed. The buffet dinner is mediocre and the cultural performance the worst we saw in... More
