We had a magical and memorable stay at this fantastic hotel. One reason for my choosing it was for its reputation for service, and we were not disappointed! My main concerns were security and transportation, and the hotel arranged our airport transport and excursions, since they have consistent relationships with excellent guides, work with taxi companies that they know well, as well as limo drivers. We felt very safe. The fantastic service extended to the staff at the reception desk. They really took good care of us, making sure we were comfortable, answering all our questions, and making us feel incredibly secure and relaxed. They are THE BEST! If you go, ask Peter the majordomo to tell you about the interesting history of the hotel, which once hosted Emperor and Empress Maximilian and Carlotta. The staff speaks fluent English, which is not always the case in Guanajuato. Our Master Suite Victoria, with a balcony overlooking the square, was delightful - immaculately clean, with a fabulous shower with tons of consistently hot water, and a really, really comfortable bed. It was a treat to be there. We picked that room because we love music and wanted to be in on Guanajuato’s famously lively vibe. One thing we love about Mexico is seeing all the families promenading on the plazas, as was the case here. Yes, the mariachi bands played until late, but if you get those moldable silicone earplugs they sell at CVS you’ll be fine (not the foam earplugs - the clear silicone ones). We closed the windows and shutters, and put in our trusty earplugs, and fell right to sleep. No problem. If a lively scene is not your thing, there are beautiful rooms facing the interior patios. Discuss your concerns with the front desk - they really aim to please. The hotel’s location is perfect. All the main museums, churches, and other sights are within walking distance, and we adored witnessing the scene in the Jardín. While taxis do not take you right up to the front door because the plaza is pedestrian, the drop off location is literally one half block away. A staff member from the hotel walks you to your taxi and carries your bag. When you first arrive, you are 2 minutes from the entrance. The hotel is very recognizable and you can’t miss it. A true luxury hotel, this is a wonderful choice and worth every penny. Thank you, staff of Hotel 1850!…
