There were not many people there when I visited but the dorm room was nice and comfortable. The view on the city from the room was great. The staff was very kind and helpful. The owner prepared typical mexican food for breakfast. It was a different recipe everyday and it tasted great!

While located in the middle of a giant staircase, Casa de Dante is the cutest hostel ever with amazing artwork everywhere while there lie incredible views from the balconies. Our room was beautiful with a spacious private bathroom, though a bit chilly at night. Thankfully there were extra thick blankets stocked in the closet for us to use! Each morning we received a filling, home cooked breakfast to fuel a full day of touring Guanajuato. Everyone at the hostel was very personable, staff and guests alike, creating a peaceful atmosphere. It was also nice being away from the noise of downtown and our guide showed us neat back alleys down la Bajada de la Tecolote that brought us right down to the centro. Loved getting in some good exercise walking around town and up and down the many stairs--all made for an amazing experience!! Can't wait to come back to La Casa de Dante and the wonderful city!

I think they won me over at the reception with a young man named Ysidro (not sure how to spell his name lol) and a lady named Ilene that offered us watermelon water and watermelon pieces. Their attitude remained the same through out my whole stay. Rooms were clean and met some wonderful people at the hostel. Very cheap prices, especially considering that my trip was during Holiday season and the hotels in town were VERY expensive. It’s only about a 10-15 minute walk to downtown and, yes, there are a few steps to get to the Hostel, but unless you have some concern about a bit of exercise, then the location is amazing, because there’s a beautiful view from the hostel’s different terraces. Breakfast was so healthy and delicious, all natural and organic with vegetarian options (which is great when eating lots of meat based food here in Guanajuato, and well, much of Mexico). The best part for me was that THEY HAD A GUITAR. I always miss my guitar when I travel and this place had a cool classical guitar for the guests to play, and well, it made me so very happy. The art and design of the place is wonderful, very creative and so unique; it seems like every wall tells a different story. All in all, I don’t think I’ll stay anywhere else when I visit this beautiful city again. I know everyone has their own experiences in hostels, but I truly hope yours is as good as mine was, and that this review was able to help you in any way. Hugs from your fellow traveler friend.

This hostel had a somewhat quirky design in terms of layout, decoration, and murals on the walls but this all added to it's charms. The unusual layout means there are different places to hangout in, including a rooftop area with a great view. Our dorm room had two ensuites and big lockers for everyone's bags. Breakfast was nice and gave me a chance to try some new Mexican specialties. One aspect to be aware of are the epic steps leading up to the hostel. They are hard work, especially if you are arriving with heavy bags after a long journey etc, or if you end up climbing them a few times in one day, or you have any mobility issues. Other than that I would recommend staying here.

Just out of town and up many stairs you will find this charming hostel with its wonderful staff and excellent breakfast. For a wonderful morning walk go up the stairs and turn right. Then halfway to Al Pipila find the stairs Molino del Rey 9 that will take you to the Santo Cafe and into town.

As the title suggests - despite only being a couple of guests in the house at the time, they decided to stuff us all in one room, probably so they wouldn't have to clean more rooms. The staff was super friendly, however, and the company in our room was great. We were all from different countries and got along great. They even offered breakfast every day which was cooked fresh. My lacking Spanish skills made it difficult for me to communicate with one of the chefs, which was an older lady, but she was still super friendly and didn't give up on our communication and with the help of other guests she was even able to accomodate my vegan food wishes. It is to be said that Casa de Dante is a bit further away from the other hostels in city center and you have to walk up a considerable amount of stairs, but in the end you'll be walking a lot in this city anyway and be taking many stairs, so it is not aus daunting as it may sound. Note: I did find a scorpion in my bed in the early morning hours as I was reaching at my phone to check the time, which lead to a minor freak-out and scorpion paranoia on my part, otherwise the hostel was clean and free of bugs and insects. Also, I'm not sure if that's anything you can actually help in Mexico, unless you're in a very closed-off hotel.

I recently stayed for 7 nights and had a good experience. The breakfasts were consistently great and the staff was always friendly and helpful with travel tips. I felt very welcome at the hostel. It's about a 15 minute walk into the historic section of town but right near the main bus route to get to the central bus station outside of town. Bring flip flops for the common shared showers and ear plugs for the night as there are many, many unhappy dogs in the valley and all the sound carries. It is easy to meet people in the dorm room but more difficult outside of that as the rooms are like a labrinyth over four floors with no shared common space. However there is a nice patio on the very top floor with a great view of the city.
