I stayed at the casa for 10 days recently and loved every minute of it. My room, the grounds, the cooking, the library, the other guests, the staff, the owner...from start to finish it was just exactly what I had imagined (and hoped) Oaxaca would be like. It is an oasis within the city. A serene place to come home... More

Casa Colonial is a great place to stay, especially if you are traveling with kids. I stayed here recently with my 4 year old and 80+ year old aunt and had a great time. My daughter had a fun playing in the garden, feeding the fish, and sitting out on the veranda painting and drawing. There is a refrigerator you... More

It’s possible that the name says it all – Casa Colonial -- a colonial home in Oaxaca that has been opening its doors to guests for more than forty years. In the best of ways, the Casa shows it age – some of the current employees have welcomed visitors for almost as many years as visitors have been knocking on... More

Unlike other reviewers I do not have an idealized description of what it is like to stay at this B&B. Yes, the building itself is lovely and easily prone to idealized descriptions. It's the kind of building most guests, including myself, would fantasize about owning themselves, though they probably would wish it to be on a quieter street, rather than... More

I would highly recommend this hostel. The owner and manager could not be more helpful. It has a charming garden in which one can sit, if one has the time! It is 15 minutes quick walk from the centre but then again it is very near the taxi collectives to get to outlying villages. More

Casa Colonial met all my expectations and more. The setting is perfect, with a beautiful garden with more kinds of colorful plants than I can name and birds singing throughout the day. After hours of sightseeing or taking Spanish lessons, opening the purple door and walking into the cool, lush yard was like entering a special haven and respite. The... More

There are occasions when a standard rating system doesn't seem appropriate.  Casa Colonial begs to be considered by a different measure. From the street only a simple door in a wall greets visitors.  Casa Colonial is built in the Mexican Hacienda style. Guest rooms, salon, kitchen, dining room and office all open onto a veranda and the large open courtyard... More

We loved our stay in Oaxaca and the Casa embodied the best of the region. From the amazing breakfasts to the evening conversation with the interesting fellow guests it was perfect. Jane, the owner, and Amado, the manager, were entertaining and helpful in every way and set us up with an excellent driver/guide. So historic, beautiful and comfortable, we especially... More

All in all we spent more than seven weeks at the Casa in two installments. It was wonderful to return there—to the wonderful garden—after days spent exploring Oaxaca, its museums and its cultural events, most notable of which were the Independence Day celebration, the Days of the Dead and the run up to Christmas which we normally dislike in Europe.... It was a very spontaneous decision to visit Oaxaca and was based on some internet photos of the city. Casa Colonial is listed on a B&B website and after researching reviews on Trip Adviser, I booked it without hesitation. What a great place to stay! Many of the guests over the New Year weekend were repeat customers, some of whom... More
