This small Mexican hotel is rated 2 star, but it deserves 4 or 5 stars. Just 11 rooms around an open courtyard which can be covered in case of rain consist of 2 king suites with an upstairs loft with double bed and sitting area and a downstairs with king bed and sitting area and a huge bathroom. The other... More

My wife and I just returned from 2 nights at Villa Maria. The old part of town has tremendous potential, and Hotel VIlla Maria stands out as a charming oasis in old Merida. It is a centrally-located, small, boutique hotel within easy walking distance of great architecture, shops and good restaurants. Typical of haciendas, the rooms open into an expansive... More

We booked two nights at the Villa Maria as part of a tour of the Yucatan. However, on arrival we found that the room was musty and damp. - it really smelled bad. Also it only opened onto the interior courtyard and would have been noisy (and lacking privacy) during meals. The swimming pool was tiny and dirty. We did... More

We stayed at this hotel only one night and it was great. The room is very nice and comfortable. The food is great and the staff very kind. I was feeling not very well because of the flu and it was like staying at home. I really like it and I would recommend it to everyone. More

The photos looked very nice, glorious reviews about food and the owners (french speaking mexican and his german speaking partner who used to cook in a cruise ship), we decided to plunk down close to 200 usd per night for this hotel. the idea of "french"cuisine, and a "swimming pool" was very tempting. Disappointments began when we arrived at the... More

Moved to this property from the Ambassador Hotel across the street. We had originally thought that this was just a restaurant, but observed the large doors around the interior courtyard. We were informed there were 11 rooms. Junior suites and suites. All were two story suites. Junior suites had the large bathroom upstairs. Suites had the bathroom downstairs and a... More

Villa Maria is a wonderful choice, especially for those who like charm, atmosphere, and tranquility. The architecture is so romantic, and our room is quiet and beautiful-with very good a/c. We stayed for 7 nites. My husband and I were very pleased with Villa Maria. We loved that it is not a noisy hotel. The food is very good, and the... More

We recently spent one week over the New Year's Day holiday in Merida. We had dinner at several different places and our favorite, by far, was the Villa Maria restaurant. We didn't stay at the hotel but might try to do that in the future. The food was superb and is prepared by an Austrian chef who is also part... More

This place is ok, but way overpriced for what it is. Our room - a junior suite - was quoted without tax while most places included tax. At $140 without breakfast we ended up paying about $180 for a room without a window and with a door onto the restaurant patio with the resulting noise and lack of privacy :(... More

We first dined at Villa Maria in November, 2005. After seeing the hotel, we booked there for the next trip to Merida for a week in May, 2006. Villa Maria is a spectacular alternative to run of the mill hotels. It is truly a cultural experience. Architecturally magnificent, with beautifully appointed rooms, and conveniently located a short walk to the... More
