The Beach Club at Playa Papaya is a wonderful experience. The beach is gorgeous with nice calm waves and the sand is so soft it feels like flour. The Playa Papaya staff were kind, welcoming and always ready to satisfy your needs. I will definitely be returning for another beautiful day at the beach.

It's everything their site says, no lies here, the beach is beautiful (and not crowded), the beach club has a great music selection, same as the restaurant and bar (they're close to each other). The cabanas are frugal, but clean and the mosquito net will help you get a good night sleep; just be aware that you'll be close to... More

What a special place! This is a very beatiful place that I reccomend if you want to be close to the nature and arn't afraid of some insects. The cabanas lack eletricity but has nice beds with moscito nets. This is a place you really should try out but if you're staying there in sumer time, it might be hot... More

A vacation is a personal experience. Every man, woman and family must seek their own paradise. A common and desired definition is quiet, power white sand, a cool breeze, tranquility, exceptional service, value and convenience. Papaya Playa lives up to this definition and more. I spent hours of research trying to find a place that gave me a sense of... More

I stayed here for one night at the start of March (lovely surprise and a break from the resort we were booked into for rest of the holiday) and was disappointed it couldn't have been for longer. The beach was gorgeous and such a perfect place to really relax. Staff were really friendly and we were also upgraded free of... More

We had such a good time we stayed an extra two nights! We stayed in a ocean view cabana with sea view and found ourselves on the best spot in the whole place. Simply stunning ocean views to wake up to. The cabana was really cute and felt like home in no time. We liked the turquoise floor and bathroom... More

I think that the bar and the beachclub are really good, but I think that they are porfiting from the fact that they are an "Eco" hotel to overprice their nights while having low quality rooms. Here's my analysis: Pros: Amazing location Ok food Wifi on the bar Eventhough there are lots of rooms, the beach is quite calm Cons:... More

Papaya Playa is a nice, overpriced, place to stay. You should consider that you get what you are told you are getting, so there are no surprises. Food and drinks are excelent quality, and i did had a great time during their saturday night party and the other days I went to their beach. We did met fun and intersting... More

Went there because a friend invited us for lunch. It was beautiful! The beach, the resort, the rooms, and landscaping, and people, the food.... I can go on for days. We ended up staying there for a few nights even though we had our own all inclusive hotel. Oriented towards the young, not recommended for families. The beach is very... More

I originally visited this place in 2008 when it was more of a cheap alternative to the local eco-resorts. I payed $25 USD per/night and slept in a single room cottage overlooking the beach. There is no air conditioning, but the wind comes off the water and blows into the room, making for a very pleasant experience. I came back... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Introducing, PAPAYA PLAYA, A DESIGN HOTELS™ PROJECT hitting Tulum, Mexico from December 6, 2011 to late 2012. Having sought far and wide for a place to create an authentic, nurturing experience, the 900 meter stretch of oceanfront paradise cocooned on the Caribbean coast of the Mayan Riviera was the perfect spot. Together with Emilio Heredia, owner of the existing Papaya Playa beach bungalow resort, Design Hotels™ is initiating the ultimate pop-up camp. Claus Sendlinger explains: “Our idea was to create a transitory, yet deeply culturally-rooted experience and we couldn’t have dreamed up a better place to make this happen. Capitalizing on the natural environment and multicultural character of Tulum, we quickly put together an international team of real visionaries, each enriching the experience with their own food, music, design or wellness concept. The enthusiasm and creative energy of everyone involved enabled us to renovate the camp and put together a holistic program within a very short period of time.” So come December, the authentic-pleasure seekers have a new raw-luxe camp they can sink and rub their feet into. Eighty-five cabañas have been renovated by the Design Hotels™ creative team. Integrating local materials and building techniques, they encourage its residents to soak in the warmth of the elements, both physically and mentally. The separation between man and nature diminishes in these rustic spaces while the perception of small indulgences – like high thread count sheets, flowing mosquito nets and thick towels – is heightened. The ultimate luxury in most of the cabañas, is the private porch, where hammocks gently swing guests into sync with Tulum’s laid-back rhythm. ... more   less
