A group of us rafted the Penobscot River this past weekend through Northern Outdoors with raft guide, Chris- it was FANTASTIC! Only 2/8 rafters had previous experience and we all had a great time...Our guide was knowledgeable and helped us all to have a safe yet adventurous ride. Waiting time was minimal...training was efficient...and lunch was terrific! The rapids were... More

I have been going to northern outdoors for a few years now it is a 6 hour trip from my house and worth every second. The staff is the best the lodge is amazing and the establesment as a whole is top notch. This past time we went for memorial day weekend and we got rained out of our tents.... More

Went there yesterday, 6/1/13, and it was a blast! We rafted down Penobscot River which has two class V and six class IV rapids. Pretty intense, but totally worth it. Definitely something you'd want to try out if you've rafted before, but then again, I went with people who have never been white water rafting and they loved it! The... More

We are a family of four (two kids ages 15 & 13) and we visit Northern Outdoors every summer to raft the Kennebec. The lodging is rustic and is not to the housecleaning standards of a hotel but I've never experienced them to be dirty. More like camping. There are no tv's, no phones in the rooms and as far... Northern Outdoors is very convenient to the trails. We arrived Friday night and had dinner in the restaurant downstairs - good burger, friendly waitress. We were a group of three guys and stayed in the lodge rooms upstairs. These rooms would fit three couples or four guys as there were two double beds and a bunk bed in the room.... More

This was a great place to take off for a day ( or evening) snowmobile ride. The trails, 86 and 87 were right there. We unfortunately went on a very cold and windy weekend and were not able to take in the vistas as we had wanted to. The staff at the "resort" were wonderful. The restaurant staff especially. I found... More

First, the positives. The lodge was fantastic, the food was delicious and the staff was kind. We had two issues with our snowmobile stay. The first was the room. We made reservations for cozy cabins and were assured over the phone that we were getting one of the queen-sized bed cabins, not the bunk beds. When we arrived, we discovered... More

I am pleased that there were a number of aspects of Stacey's trip to Northern Outdoors that she enjoyed. In response to the comments about the snowmobile, I am sorry if the language on the website was misleading. The rental sleds that we use are Skidoo 550 Grand Touring models which have a detachable passenger seat. This allows that the... More

We went to Northern Outdoors for 5 days this past week and had a great time. My family and 2 other families shared a cabin I believe It's called Mountain Ash? The lodge, staff and riding were outstanding and our kids had a great time. However the cabin was just not that nice considering we had 9 kids under the... More

Lots of options for lodging- large family cabins, condos, 4 above the lodge rooms or tent camping. Our lodge room was large- sleeps 6- and clean. The only downside is that they were stuffy and the portable a.c. units were sketchy. The main lodge was a great place to hang out with comfy sofas, pool table and game room. The... More

We went to Northern Outdoors for one of the Kennebec Turbine Tests in Sept. The rafting was awesome and our guide was great. However, the cabin that we stayed in was just filthy. We stayed in Baxter Cabin at the Lakeside Resort. When we arrived on Fri and checked in, the cabin was pretty cold inside (50ish) and took quite... More

I read the recent review and was obviously delighted the reviewer enjoyed their rafting experience but was disappointed to learn of their feedback on the Baxter cabin. As the reviewer noted the cabin was in need of some upgrades. Since the end of October 2012 the cabins at Lakeside have changed ownership and the new owners have started on a... More
