We showed up without a reservation and luckily Stan and Julie had a room available. From the minute we stepped through the door we felt at home with them and their 2 dogs. Stan is a generous and hard working "retired" contractor. He designed the remaking of the original building and incorporated some wonderful ideas like glass block skylights. The... More

We drove down a narrow cobbled street and stopped in front of a lively fuchsia wall surrounding a bright blue metal door. My first thought? I wonder what is hidden behind these festive walls. I felt special already. Stan met me at the door with a broad smile and effusive welcome, not something you normally expect from a Brit, but... More

I stayed at the Casa Papaya during New Year's weekend. Here's my take on the place: Comfortable and clean room. Safe and friendly neighborhood albeit on the outskirt of downtown. Good breakfast. Fantastic...fantastic owners. Highly recommended for single travellers and family.

Actually there should be a six star rating just to cover a place like this. We stayed with Julie and Stan 3 yrs before and the excellence has not changed. We travel a great deal in the USA and in Europe and I've never experienced a bed and breakfast like this. Everyone reviewing it cannot reflect the actual experience.

This is just going to be redundant of all the other reviews, but here goes... By my title, I mean that I've often found B&B hosts to have an undercurrent of tension, a phony friendliness, or even a quietly-expressed hostility. Well, this is not that kind of B&B. Julie and Stan are two people who make you feel so at... More

Start with the fact that you very probably will never get more personal attention from your hosts. Whatever you want or need Julie and Stan will go out of their way to provide. Need a ride downtown? Done. Bus station? Done. Nine miles out to a hot spring? Done. Get the picture? Julie writes a restaurant guide and knows the... More

There are only two rooms for rent in this accommodation and as we were two couple traveling together we felt very fortunate to stay here. My husband felt instantly at home when Stan offered a beer when we walked in the door. The two rooms share a private sitting room which was nice at night if one person wants to... More

Many reviews have already noted the warmth and helpfulness of Julie and Stan and the comfortable accommodations. I want to mention a few other things that make it stand out for first-time and return visitors to SMA. Julie and Stan are 100% attentive to needs and preferences of their guests. If you want general or specific conversation, they're available. If... More

My brother and sister-in-law stayed at Casa Papaya several times and praised it highly, so when I decided to visit San Miguel I followed their recommendation. I’m glad I did. Stan and Julie are wonderful. I loved Stan’s great breakfasts and his fascinating stories of his travel adventures. Julie’s expert knowledge of restaurants, shopping and entertainment were spot on. I... More

We were a family of four; all ages. Grandma, myself, teen and a baby. Everything was great from the beginning to the end. First of all; location, location, location. So close to everything. The directions Julie provided were on point. Didn't get lost. Secondly, the attention to detail. Julie thinks of everything from shopping to dining to suggestions. What a... More
