Spent a delightful five nights recently in the 100 yr old Sylvia. Most of the staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The views of English Bay from the bar/dining areas are wonderful. Our 8th floor room was large and had a sofa and chairs. The bathroom was awkwardly remodeled. but serviceable. One of the 2... More

This hotel is in a great location, right next to English bay for truly gorgeous views of the sea and right next to Stanley park. Denman street is minutes away for great for breakfast and dinner with more choice than you can imagine at all sorts of prices. The hotel is old in style, priding itself on being the oldest... More

This hotel is very quaint and charming. It has a great location, great views, and tons of eateries/bars nearby. And, the staff is just excellent. This is not a new hotel. Creaky old elevator, wood paneling everywhere, rooms with no AC, light and sockets that might work, tube TVs; the whole place looks like somewhere your parents would have stopped... More

You are correct that the Sylvia Hotel is a special place with close attachment to our heritage. However we no longer have the tube TVs, they have all been upgraded to flat screens. Thanks for mentioning the "good, clean and friendly location", and you comments about the excellent staff will be posted in the lunch room for all to see.... More

The historic Sylvia lived up to its reputation for us last weekend. Perfect location opposite the beach at English Bay and next the Stanley Park. Great restaurants nearby. Super people watching from the lounge and restaurant. Our older room was a good size, very clean and recently refurnished. We go to Vancouver (from Victoria) a few times a year and... More

We've stayed at the Sylvia many times and have always enjoyed it. It could, however, now do with a bit of updating as the poor old girl is looking her age. Her heritage is, of course, part of her charm - but maybe add coffee makers in the rooms and better lighting (especially in those walk-in closets!). Staff are always... More

Welcome back, I love hearing comments about the "pleasant and friendly" staff. You gave a good tip to the other readers and will pass along your comments about the new menu in the restaurant. The lighting in the few rooms with the walk in closets is a challenge in an old building but we are working on it. With the... More

We stayed at the Sylvia prior to a cruise a couple of weeks ago and it was very good. Whilst it is an old building the rooms were well equipped - except no fridge or tea/coffee making facilities in the room! It was reasonable price, and of course located right on English Bay in Vancouver- best location ever. Restaurants close... More

You have written some very fair comments about your stay with us. We do offer fridges on request at the front desk and we do have rooms with full kitchens if you require fridge in the future. I will pass along your comments about the food and service to the Chef and Food and Beverage Manager as they like to... More

Went to Vancouver recently and stayed in the Sylvia. We were very lucky as it has rained a lot in the week before but we had a lovely dry stay. The Sylvia is a relaxed, homely hotel with efficient and polite staff who were always pleasant and eager to help. Our room, while it initially appeared dated and a bit... More

Thank-you for your comments about the staff and the level of service you received. I am very proud of my crew; they have the same passion for customer service as I do. Stayed there for one night during quick trip to Vancouver. The English Bay area is wonderful. Views of the anchorage and beach were great . Checked into the hotel. No bell service offered. Asked about suggested local restaurants for dinner and received blank look from the desk attendant. Asked for second key to the room, but was told that none... More

This was our third stay at the Sylvia, over a span of fifteen years. We had a large, nicely furnished 8th floor room with windows looking out on English Bay and a bit of the spectacular mountains to the north. It's a grand old lady, well cared for, and in an unbeatable location for vacationers. Business travelers may prefer the... More
