Stayed here with my family of 7 (adults). The Maven Gypsy is a friendly B&B but don't expect much luxury. Rooms are comfortable (we had 4 rooms). Breakfast has a local flavor (one day we had pancakes) and is served in a nice spot overlooking the ocean. Form here you can easily enjoy Cape Breton NP. We had a nice... More

If you find yourself on the eastern side of Cape Breton island, don't look for a place to stay in St. Ann's, because St. Ann's does not exist as a town. Guide books are very misleading on this point. Look for something in Ingonish or in Baddeck. In any case, we did not know this, so we ended up on... More

Stayed in August 2011 for 2 days in cottages. Bathroom was terrible and dark. The shower curtain kept falling off. We rewashed all the dishes before we used them. Room was clean. There is a big hill getting to the cottages and we were told they had lots of parking for a truck and trailer. We had a horrible time... More

We rented two cottages at Maven Gypsy in early August. Two couples per cottage. Cabin #4 was overrun with ants. The dishes, glasses etc all had to be washed before we could use them. There were no amenities to speak of in either cottage; no soap, shampoo etc although this was stated as part of the deal. The cabins are... More

We recently stayed there and found out that the hosts were not actually the owner of the property and it appears that they don't really know much around. We took a room with private bath downstairs at the price of 109 before tax (125 after). They actually charged deposit without our awareness. The room is very small. The bath is... More

Andy and Lynn were welcoming as substitute hosts. Our room in the B&B, was clean and comfortable. The bed was brand new (they were responding to earlier feedback, and actioned it...which is a good sign of caring hosts). Breakfast was delicious and plentiful (we couldn't finish it all). A good mix of fruit.granola, followed by eggs (fresh from the chickens... More

I was so impressed with all the great reviews so decided to stay here. I should have notice that these reviews were since 2010. Apparently the hosts were out of town so they ran the whole place with lack of experience. The price is ridiculous for the service/room we received. Breakfast was horrible. The bacon was so fatty and coffee... More

I was very excited to stay at the Maven Gypsy, based on the pictures provided on the website and the friendly correspondence when making reservations. Unfortunately, the pictures were quite deceiving. The bed was terribly uncomfortable, there was no lock for the room door, no bars of soap in the bathroom and there was a bad smell coming from the... The room is very small, smells bad, and the dining room is just on the other side of the wall which means that you would have to get up early. No locker to the room! We arrived at a cold (summer) night - there was no heating. The Motel is on an isolated hill on the Cabot trail which means... More
