We spent several days in Manzanillo and had a wonderful time at Mar Y Sol. The hostel is right on the beach. The rooms are not fancy and the building is older but for the price it was fantastic. Where else can you stay beachfront for $30. Better yet the dorms were only $10. We made great friends with the... More

This wasn't the greatest place we've stayed by far, if I was 18 again then maybe (I'm only 24 now haha). The owners were nice enough but we didn't really feel super welcome and no one told us that they even served food and after seeing the kitchen I don't think we would have done anyway! The room was a... More

Hi all, I am afraid that I had an unpleasant stay here. I fear that the positive reviews are fake ones and that the review from Weltenbummler, mentioning mold in the rooms is truthful. The hostel claims to be the only one in Manzallino (I beleive there could be another, I saw a sign by Maxis restaurant, please check this).... More

the owners at the mar y sol are some of the kindest I met while in Costa Rica. with a delicious restaurant menu, free wifi, affordable rooms and everything that I needed I would recommend this hostel to anyone. the location and tour services they will arrange were excellent. I wish I never had to leave.

We stayed at Mar Y Sol because of a recommendation we got along our travels. We were told the place was great, right on the beach, inexpensive modest rooms, shared kitchen and everything you need to feel at home. They were RIGHT!!! we loved it here and wished we had more time on our trip to spend there. The owners... More

We booked this hostel for two nights in advance (private room for 30$). When we arrived there we got a spacious but completely moldy room. Staying in this room caused us after a short time some respiration problems due to the high amount of mold everywhere in the room. Additionaly, the room was soposed to be equipped with a private... We really enjoyed our weekend at Mar Y Sol! Perfect location in the middle of Manzanillo right on the beach. Rooms are simple but great value for a budget traveler. We ended up a couple thousand colones short on our bill and ready to run down to the ATM but the owner told us not to worry... saving us the... More

Had an awesome time here! The owners were very helpful and friendly. The food at the restaurant was great and fairly cheap. The location is perfect, right across the road from the beach. I would definitely recommend going to Manzanillo and staying here!

Our family didn't stay here but if I were traveling alone or with a friend I would for certain stay here. We stopped in a number of times for lunch, the food was excellent and the beer cold. The American innkeepers were very friendly and hospitable, even allowed me to use his internet phone on a couple of occasions to... More

The first and only true hostel in Manzanillo....and we are located directly on the "BEST BEACH IN COSTA RICA" says Lonely Planet. Fall asleep to the sound of crashing waves and awake to our stunning views of the beautiful Caribbean Ocean.Want to escape the hectic "party" atmosphere of places like Puerto Viejo and just relax and rejuvinate - this is where you need to be.Note - we are a hostel, not a resort or a hotel. Our building is older and that means parts of it may be ugly - ugly does not equal dirty. It also means we will clean your private room ever other day and your dorm room will be cleaned as needed daily after 11am when people check out. If you would like something cleaned more often then please ask. We will do our best to make sure you enjoy your stay. ... more   less
