We go up to the dales from Kent once or twice a year and stay at a bed and breakfast base in Yockenthwaite - [Mrs. Middleton at Raisgill which is so lovely] and then go down to the George at Hubberholme for an evening meal. They start serving early at about 6.30 and finish early and the pub is several... More

We were a party of eight women walking The Dales Way and selected this Inn because of its location on the route. We had walked 15miles in torrid weather conditions arriving just before 6pm. The bar looked wonderful-welcoming with soft lights and a real fire. We were greeted by the landlord who felt we were late in arrival and there... More

Have known this inn for many years and being at the start/finish of a great walk have stopped by on many an occasion. The problem with it has been highlighted by many others and that is the approach taken by the landlord. Recently stopped by for a pint after a usual walk and all was good. The stone flagged bar... My Nan had her honeymoon at the George in 1933. I had to stay. And I am really pleased I did. Barry is a great bloke. His beer excellent. The bedrooms good. Food a little bit disappointing but you know what? This is a little piece of heaven in God's country. So moaners get a life and realise what it... More

I have been treating myself to a walk and a pint for years. This pub is what pubs are all about, I agree with other comments, no red flock wallpaper and false beams here, and no kiddies ball pools, proper Yorkshire grit is what this is all about. Too many people now 'walk' the Dales with no idea what it... More

Living in the Dales I could not believe some of the reviews for the George at Hubberholme. My wife and I visited the pub on a sunday afternoon. It was 2.50pm. We ordered drinks and were told that we would have to drink them outside as the land lord was closing for the day. He also told us that if... More

We walked the Dales Way, stopping at inns or B&Bs each night and on our last day voted which were the best: the George had the best breakfast, the best dinner (trad pub fare, well prepared, with plenty of vegetables, at good prices) and the best beer. Especially highly recommended for beer lovers: the small Askrigg brewery makes beer especially... More

The pub itself is full of character, the rooms are comfortable, but ........ the other comments on here are all valid. The landlord unfortunately is too vocal with his comments about dying trade. If he could only see himself he would see how he could turn it right about and have the roaring trade that once was with the previous... More
