First and foremost, I wish there were a rating higher than excellent (like outstanding?) because no words can truly articulate just how wonderful this B&B is and do it sufficient justice. I've had the pleasure of traveling the globe staying at various places for business trips. However, I've never had the pleasure of staying at such a wonderful and down... More

My wife & I visited the "Queens head" on Wednesday, must say the food was very good, my wife had the chicken pie & I had the steak & kidney pie, both were very tasty & had a nice thin shortcrust pastry. Would have enjoyed a little more veg, but everything was piping hot,( even the plates) The staff were... More

We stayed here with our 8 year old daughter for two nights over the easter weekend. It's a lovely oldy worldy inn, very friendly staff, good grub! The Inn is mainly a restaurant now so there's no problems with late night noise. Everyone is very attentive and they even gave the children little packages of easter eggs!

Really nice food and service with lovely children's meals. Thanks to staff who knew to bring children's meals with starters and that they might only need one scoop of ice cream! Hopefully will be back to enjoy again.

Stayed here for 3 nights whilst working in Carlisle, wanted to be about 25 minutes away from the job which I was, and also wanted a tiny slice of Lakeland, which this definitely was. My room (Helvellyn) was ideal. Warm, cosy and with THE most comfy bed, good shower and a lovely view. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful.... More

Just returned from a short stay in Penrith. We were wlooking for a good pub in which to eat in the evening and were glad that we chose this pub. The interior is very traditional and there was a roaring log fire. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. Staff were very friendly and attentive and couldn't do enough for... More

My wife and I stayed at this pub for one night as we were dropping our daughter off at the nearby Newton Rigg campus of the University of Northumbria. The atmosphere is one of olde worlde charm, the bar and restaurant staff were attentive and eager to please. We ate seated in the bar area and found the food (I... More

Stayed here for two nights. It's a really thriving country pub with a number of different bar and restaurant areas, all very comfortable. The food is very good value, and uses fresh produce (nice, crisp vegetables). The bedrooms are characterful - by no means luxurious or perfectly decorated, and with a noisy plumbing system, but like the bar comfortable, and... More

My wife and I stayed for two nights in August 2012. Pros: The staff were very friendly, the breakfast and evening food was very good, the hotel is set in a nice country location. Cons: We had a 1hr 20min wait for our meal on second night. Apologies were given but no offer of a reduction or complimentary bottle of... More
