We had a large room but was not a renovated one. Poor lighting in room and hallways. Did have wireless internet. Staff was friendly but not always knowledgeable about the area. The biggest complaint is the parking, while it was at least fairly close it's pricey. $13 a day if you don't leave! We were in and out all day... More

I love everything old, and the Walper does not disappoint with how they have redone this hotel to make it modern but keep the "old" feel to it. Right in the heart of downtown, so simple to walk King Street and visit the shops. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast on Saturday morning which was included with out room price and... More

I stayed at The Walper just a few weeks ago, it's a beautiful property. They somehow brought together Victorian style charm with a modern touch - for the same price you'd pay at a chain hotel. It seems like the sports groups that provided the recent reviews stumbled upon this place because they were looking for good value. They would... More

We stayed at the hotel for a volleyball tournament, and regret not leaving the moment we walked in. Firstly when we drove up to the property, hotel workers were standing out front smoking in front of the door that we had to walk through their second hand smoke to enter the hotel then we were told they had parking and... I cannot speak first hand to your experiences on the weekend. Although I do normally live in the hotel, I was in courses on this particular weekend. I have spoken to my nights team who did their utmost to control the noise on what was admittedly a busy night at the hotel. They have told me that among other things,... More

We were booked to stay at this hotel for 2 nights due to a Volleyball tournament. What a mistake. The room was the tiniest I have ever seen. Two doubles beds, one had to be pushed up against the wall for it to fit. Heater/Air conditioner is in the window. Blinds are frayed and dont work. Step up to a... More

New managers/owners at Kitchener's historic Walper Hotel are slowly sprucing it up, apparently on a shoestring. The lobbies and other public spaces have been greatly improved, there's fresh paint throughout, and new carpets and linens. Unfortunately, there's still a way to go. For instance, the bedside lamps were dim at best and there was none at the desk. There was... More

We stayed at this hotel for one night as our friend was having her wedding annviersary party here. The crystal ballroom was very nice and it was a great hall. Big, bright and loved the hardwood floors. The room we stayed in was very nice. It was open concept style with the living room separated by a wall that had... More

Opened in 1893, this place has a charm that one won't find at comparably priced places. The staff were excellent, very accommodating, and being in the 'thick of things', near outdoor ice skating, a museum cafe, and such in downtown Kitchener made it fun. The area is a bit edgy as well, but not unsafe I felt. And the rooms... More

Gave this hotel 4 out of 5 only because they are not quite there yet. But one can see the vision coming, and they are doing a great job of restoring The Walper to it's former glory, a place that has received many famous persons and dignitaries over the last 120 years or so. Stayed here while taking a family... More

We stayed at this hotel in August 2011. We were attending a wedding at the same venue. Our corner room was large and bright, with high ceilings and comfortable furnishings to reflect its past heritage. The bathroom had not been renovated but was acceptable. The air conditioner was noisy but effective; we were told that replacement units were about to... More

Thank you so much for the review! As you noted, we have had a busy year, and in fact have made many more improvements since your stay in August. Hopefully we will have you back again as our guest to see the continuous improvement. Thank you again for the feedback. More
