Came in mid-January, when Winchester was quiet and beautiful. Stayed here for a long weekend just before Christmas, and booked a "superior" room with en-suite etc. The room (and the pub generally) was full of character, with decent antique furniture, and very clean with a decent bed and bathroom. We stayed for one night after we had a recommendation from the tourist information and we were very impressed. We had called a couple of other places and all of them seems expensive or fully booked so when I rang and the Westgate had a double room in the heart of winchester for £75 including breakfast we were very pleased!!... Room was basic but clean.Staff were all really friendly and helpful.Ideal place to explore Winchester - very central which meant some noise at night but that was expected.I had eggs benedict with ham on muffin with hollandaise sauce - best breakfast I have ever had and my hubby enjojed his full english too.Would stay again .Many thanks ! We stayed in the Napoleon room. We could see the Westgate to Winchester out of our window. We really enjoyed our stay. The staff is friendly and helpful. the breakfast was always excellent. Room was dark, for a very good reason! Everywhere needed a good clean, bathroom was filthy, communal areas looked dirty with threadbare carpets. Kept awake from the room above as you could hear everything from them running a bath to flusing the toilet. Wouldn't reccomend this place or stay there again. The rooms are definatley not worth the money! More
