Stayed for 1 night last week. Hotel is in fabulous location, just 100 yards from village centre. Great for access to walking trails. It's half a mile or so to the lake. Room adequate but with lovely view. Beer superb. Noisy locals in bar leave early. Lovely lounge area with large conservatory. Nice for reading or surfing net. Dinner pretty... More

Whilst staying at the wonderful Blackbull in Coniston my husband and I called in for a drink. After navigating our way past the group of locals reluctant to move in the door way and who were swearing at each other we arrived at the bar. The most miserable barman in the village served us without as much as a smile.... More

After one evening of good beer and reasonable service, 8 of us returned the next night for an evening meal. It was truly dreadful -over spiced and over salted lasagne-fish less than fresh fish served with chips fried in peculiar fat. Vastly overpriced pub grub served by unenthusiastic staff. we couldn't wait to get out of the place. I would... More

After a long day walking, my husband and I thought we would try the food here. I ordered Roast Beef and was told they had run out of Yorkshire puddings (run out?? I did wonder if that meant run out of the basic egg flour & milk or the 'other' type!)Anyway i said never mind i have a extra potato.... More

Visited this hotel whilst staying in the area, loved the ambience in the bar, so decided to order some food early evening (Sunday) - what a disaster, starter was ok, but main course was dreadful. Creamy Parsley Mash - lumpy mash, not creamy with some chopped parsley! Rib of Beef was so hot , I have never had beef this... More

We discovered the Sun some years ago while walking about in Coniston. At the time, the hotel was undergoing some building works so we were unable to eat there. On subsequent trips we visited the Sun and saw the improvements coming along. The bar area was refurbed and an upstairs eating area beautifully restored. We had a lovely pub lunch... More

Could be near perfect. Great food but lack of some basics like burgers, steaks etc and a bit expensive. However the room were in, no5 left a lot to be desired. Very small, dreadful and outdated decor. Shower/toilet felt dirty but probably was because of all the black on the shower seals. No real wardrobe which was a problem when... More

We (two families of three) stayed here for a long weekend. We were put in the family annex and it was very good value for money. We paid £250 for two nights for all of us - including breakfast, which was very reasonable I thought. The annex was great, ideal for what we wanted. It wasnt posh or even modern... More
