A beautiful building with its own garden and lake views. Local amenities within walking distance and plenty of things to do within easy travelling distance. The staff were great and the facilities were more than adequate.

A large group of us stayed here for the Cartmel 10km. It is a beautiful building and the grounds are really well kept. The surrounding area is lovely with great views of Esthwaite lake. We stayed in a room with 4 bunk beds which had two sinks and 1 shower. Unfortunately the light in the shower wasn't working so we...

Thank you for your recent review- I trust you all enjoyed your weekend and the fabulous weather.
Apologies for the issues with the showers- they are in hand but have taken a little longer to repair than anticipated and I am sorry that this affected your stay.
I'm glad you enjoyed the meals you had with us and I appreciate...

Stayed at this fantastic and remote location over New Year with friends and in a shared room. If you've never been before you're best getting there during daytime as its pitch black in the area and roadsigns to the hostel are poor. You dont really see a a sign for it until you are literally at the gates and could...

Thanks for your review, I found your comments very useful and we have addressed some of the issues raised- there is now more signage outside the building and more hooks in the washrooms. I'm glad you apprecaited our lovely location- we feel very proud to live and work here. We hope we will see you again at YHA Hawkshead.

Wow there were 77 of us here for the weekend over the new year period and even though we had some very lively children the staff did not get tired of smiling and being nice to everyone, well done. That said as they are aware the building does need a lot of refurb which is such a shame but buildings...

Warm, clean, very friendly & helpful staff. Reasonably priced (£5) cooked breakfast. Strong smell of paint when we got to our room but it soon went. Take a plug bank if you can-charging those gadgets up on one plug is problematic.

Thanks for taking the time to post your review. We have been doing some decorating recently so apologies that the paint smell hadn't quite gone from your room by the time you arrived.
We are glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you here again in the future.

I spent a night here during half term with my children. The hostel looked lovely from the outside having been painted since our last visit. Room very spacious with beautiful view over Esthwaite Water and staff were friendly. They keep it as clean as they can but I agree with other reviews that it really does need a refurb inside...

Can't believe some of the reviews here - need a car, run down building etc. It's a Youth Hostel not the Hilton and in a fabulous old building in extensive grounds in a spectacular location. It's only a short walk or couple of minutes bike ride to the village and if you need a car for that you probably shouldn't...

The staff here are superb, polite, helpful and genuinely interested in what your doing. They are really let down by the building. Great location, Hawkshead 10 - 15 minute walk, lovely village.
The building/furniture/showers are shabby, If i've heard right, YHA are selling Hawkshead off at the end of year, it shows with lack of investment.
Family really enjoyed staying...

Thank you for taking the time to review YHA Hawkshead.
We are currently in the early stages of working through a refurbishment programme at the hostel to update and improve the facilities and decor. We are aware of the impact it can have on our guests and we hope to have the improvements completed over the winter. Apologies that we...

We stayed here for the Great North Swim weekend in a family room. The main hostel is a beautiful if shabby building with more charm than facilities, with the odd dodgy shower and an under-equipped kitchen. This mild dereliction is no doubt due to its imminent sale at the end of the summer to raise money for other YHA projects....

We stayed here for a few nights during May half term and had a great time.
The room was a double en suite with 24 hour access which was brilliant. The breakfast was plentiful and freshly cooked. We had dinner there one night which was good quality and value (£12 for 3 courses).
There was a really nice atmosphere and...
