Lovely atmosphere and great food, make sure you're hungry, the portions are huge! My favourite place to eat when back home in York. My daughter and I have returned this time with two other people who likewise enjoyed their experience of the Golden Fleece. Btw, the roast beef in giant Yorkshire pud with mash and gravy is wonderful.

I visited the famous haunted pub on may 11th 2013. Although the pub is said to be haunted i didnt experience anything paranormal. The pub, did however have a really unpleasant feel. It didnt feel right for me to be in there. I felt on edge, and the building was very wonky. THE STAIRS WHERE HURRENDOUS!!! the building totally leaned... More

My friend and I visited this pub at lunch time mid-week in April. We sat in the beer garden and had a pleasant drink in peaceful surroundings. The pub itself is extremely interesting, with lots of pictures and curiosities to look at, to say nothing of the row of death masks on the corridor wall. We went back in the... More

I recently went for a drink at the Golden Fleece pub. Now despite the pub is very old it also boasts a lot of paranormal activity too as seen on the Most Haunted show. At that time nothing happened but you could sometimes sense there was something there. I am a believer in the paranormal so if you aren't afraid... More

Was having some drinks with a few friends, and the bar staff cut us off the second round. Gave some ridiculous excuse, and said they wouldn't serve us again. Didn't do anything wrong, and felt insulted after. Really ruined what was a good night up until then. Don't go there if you want to relax and have a few drinks... More

We popped in here on a Thursday night for a couple of drinks while were were visiting York. We were lucky to get a couple of stools near the bar in the back room. They had a Folk duo on called "2 bob" who were brilliant. Great atmosphere and good drinks. Will go back again.

My wife and myself stayed there for 2 nights and loved it. Excellent pub, full of character, lovely staff, good food, could do better by cooking real chips and not frozen/packeted ones. Apart from the chips I cannot fault our stay there last weekend, got exactly what we wanted

Called in here whilst visiting my son and his girlfriend (a student at York Uni). My lad had been here before and raved about it, but being about 5 'o' clock on a Sunday I envisaged struggling to get a table. Fortunately we found a table, and much to the appeasement of my lad who wanted to watch the footie,... More
