Stayed here for a family party, cannot understand the bad reviews as we found the rooms clean, newly reburished, the food excellent, very friendly place to stay.
Will definitely return.

had a fantastic time when we stayed at the anchor last weekend!! We were going to a wedding at nearby langley castle and pre booked the anchor via the internet, although we read some bad reviews we needn't have worried. The hospitality was second to none, the landlady and partner were brilliant(contrary to other reviews!!) The breakfast was top notch and...

This hotel is right on the Tyne - you couldn't get a nicer spot and if you are a walker or cyclist there are loads of nearby routes to choose from. The food is of a really good standard - several steps above the usual pub grub and the couple running the place couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful....

It is steeped in history which the welcoming landlady was only too happy to tell me about. The food was delicious and the chef very accommodating with my dietry requests. The room was cozy with a wonderful view...

I have recently had a lovely trip to York and paid the same price for a 4 star rated hotel....oh and what a shock I received when I stayed here 4 days later!!!! The rooms stank of a combination of damp and stale cigarette smoke. The bed was really uncomfortable, we had an electric toilet which didn't flush properly too....

I have NEVER written on a forum like this before but I always look at Trip Advisor and I'm shocked at the reviews below. Myself and my family stayed here last weekend and we had such a nice time here and the owners are so lovely and helpful - even getting us a sewing kit when my sister split her...

I just do not understand this place. Pub bit - the food looks nice and its next to a river - new decking and seats and chairs BUT, we checked in, got a room right at the top - it was horrid. We checked back out again straight away feeling rather distressed (after 8 hours in the car). Smelt of...
