One of the reasons I try to stay away from larger hotels, having lived in holiday Inns for 5 years. Housekeeping should allow the staff a little more time on occasions to do a deep clean in the rooms. Didn't fancy the un-inviting restaurant, so ate out. breakfast was one of the better things about my stay, except for the... More

I had booked a group on Champagne Cream Tea at the Caledonian Hotel for Saturday 28 April as a treat for my husband for his 59th birthday, and we thought it was lovely. The scones, the sandwiches and the dainty little cakes were a real treat and were served with a lovely pot of tea and best of all, a... More

On the outside this looks like a great hotel, but scratch the surface and you find it isn't quite as good as you once thought. This was a gift from parents, 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast in one of the Peel hotels. The room was supposed to be a superior - i wouldn't have liked a basic room as... More

Went for a 2 night break on Thursday and Friday nights. Staff very helpful. Stayed in an executive room which equalled any 4 star hotel even though only 3 star. More

My husband booked afternoon tea here for us and my parents as part of my birthday celebrations. The service was a little slow but the afternoon tea was delicious. There were 3 types of finger sandwiches, egg mayo, beef and horseradish and smoked salmon and cucumber, a cheese scone and a fruit scone each with clotted cream and jam plus... More

Spent 2 nights at the Caledonian when taking in show at Theatre Royal. Hotel located in Jesmond which is less the 10 mins from city centre - 3 stops on the metro and a £5 to £10 taxi fare. The area is very nice with plenty of hotels, pubs etc. - something for everyone. We had an evening meal in... More

Visited on 25th March as a treat for my partner on a Living Social Deal.....awful!! I would not serve the beef to my dog!! overcooked, grisly dry and wafer thin, so processed, there was our table and only 2 other tables occupied (speaks volumes) and both other tables had complained so we thought hey ho.... they will have rectified the... Whilst most of the public areas have been refurbished, the rooms are very outdated and in serious need of being brought into the 21st century. Hotel was booked for business for 3 nights, will not be using hotel again as it wasn't the cheapest around, in my view didn't represent the price paid per night. There is no free view... More
