Yes, it’s expensive. We stayed in one of refurbished rooms (very pleasant but alas a little noisy) that go some way to justifying the cost. Booked one of their package deals to include a meal at the Walnut Tree restaurant on the Friday, including a taxi each way and a champagne tea on the Sunday.
