An excellent small hotel, in an exceptional setting serving exquisite food. The service is warm and friendly and the rooms are lovely. But, no where in the public areas of the hotel was there any easy arm chairs, and there was no easy chair in our room. Therefore, because I have a slight back problem and we were staying for... More

The food was marvellous. The accommodation very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A five star establishment! The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating as we had a dog and a 7 week old baby.

We were fortunate with the weather when we visited this hotel so we had wonderful views across to Islay and Jura. However, due to this good weather the room was extremely hot during the night even although we opened the windows very wide, so we didn't sleep too well. The staff were very pleasant and friendly but the service in... More

Just spent a couple of days here through one of those deals and it was the best bargain ever. The room was fantastic with stunning views over the Sound of Jura to Islay and Jura; the sunsets (we got lucky with the weather!) were beautiful. If planning a visit, I would recommend you ask for one of the 'rooms with... More

Lovely hotel, beautiful views, staff very nice, room was spacious with good size tv, very clean, great power shower. Now the wee niggles I had. Would have liked an iron in the room. We stayed here for 2 nights on a 5pm deal and it was superb value. The room was lovely and had it's own balcony with the most fantastic view and a large and very comfortable bed. We had breakfast in the hotel on both mornings and it was very tasty. All the staff were pleasant and efficient and are a... More

Staff great with my one year old. They have high chairs too. We ate in the bar area - 4 adults and one kiddie. Had starters and main courses. Great selection of dishes and drinks. Beautiful views of the sunset while we ate.

Lovely hotel, rooms very nice, clean, smart, contemporary decor, warm adjustable radiators. bar and restaurant nice, food good but the overall appeal of this place has to be it's location. our room and the bar and restaurant looked straight over to the beach about 100 yards away. absolutely spectacular. the weather wasn't kind the weekend we stayed but this added... Have just spent 2 nights at this newly refurbished hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. From check in to check out the staff were more that helpful. On arrival we were upgraded to the principle room. It has the biggest bath I've seen with amazing views across to Islay and Jura. This room (and a few others up the stairs)... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Putechan Hotel is a former Duke of Argyll’s hunting lodge dating from 1872. It lies on the western edge of Kintyre facing the dramatic Atlantic Ocean with stunning views of the Isles of Islay, Jura and Gigha, together with incredible sunsets. It is surrounded by rugged grounds with an amazing pebble beach, strewn with giant rocks for our customers to enjoy. Take a walk along the beach or perhaps a BBQ while looking out for the dolphins and minke whales. The hotel, now under new ownership, has been extensively refurbished and extended, and can now offer a variety of bedrooms to suit different tastes and pockets; from the bridal suite with roll-top window bath looking out to Jura and Islay and balcony facing the ocean, our 1st floor premier rooms with balconies, ground floor doubles with sea views and a linked disabled room. We can also offer more budget accommodation in our rear facing rooms and ‘bunk rooms’. We also have a fully refurbished and extended Venue catering for a variety of events from weddings (up to 120 seated). Attached to the south wing is the sensational ‘Rock Room’ with one whole wall formed by a massive rock with French doors to the rear and front with stunning views over the ocean. The room seats around twenty and could be used for meetings, smaller intimate weddings, yoga/fitness work-outs, business meetings, or an exhibition hall for local artists. Tell us what event you want to run and we will make sure it is one to remember. The south-facing courtyard is a natural sun-trap and looks over onto the private beach. With practically no light pollution, and clever outdoor lighting systems the Putechan enjoys fantastic stargazing on a cloudless night. ... more   less
