During our stay nothing major went wrong, however for a four star hotel it wasn’t up to scratch compared with others I have stayed in. It was all the little things that weren’t right: the Wi-fi signal was bad, the shower door was broken, the curtains didn’t close properly at the top (an issue since there were scaffolding and builders... This is nice hotel in a peaceful location. Ideal for touring. I was on business so was particularly attracted by the free wifi. It was free but my pleasant room was too far away from the router. On complaining I got the impression this is a common problem. Would give it a try again in the hope this issue will... More

We stayed for 2 nights and found the hotel a nice base to explore the area. The room was quite small but adequate for what we wanted. The food in the Bistro was very good and I was pleasantly surprised by the prices. More

Thank you for this review. It is always good to know when guests have enjoyed their stay. Dumfries and Galloway is a largely unexplored jewel in the South West of Scotland. Pleased you found it an ideal base. Hopefully see you again. Mike Phillips General Manager More

We booked the honeymoon suite for the 1 night, everything was ok, when I arrived there was a free bottle of Italian fizzy wine waiting (cava or champagne would have been better though) small box of chocolates and two very wilted roses on the bed. Check in was efficient and nothing was a problem. My only complaint would be the... More

Thanks for the review and pleased to see you enjoyed your stay. Mattresses can be a personal preference but will check the one in your room. Roses should not have wilted and appreciate bringing this to my attention. See your point about not staying but thanks for recommending. Best wishes Mike Phillips General Manager. More

My wife and I stayed at the Aston on 26th April for 1 night. It was part of a long weekend to visit relatives and have a few trips out to places surrounding Dumfries. The hotel is set in the expansive grounds of the Crichton Estate (www.crichton.co.uk) on the outskirts of the town. The hotel reception, bar and restaurant are... More

Thank you for this honest review. Pleased that you have enjoyed our rooms, dinner and location. Not so happy like yourselves about breakfast. Whilst we should never have a bad day it would appear that it happened on the morning on your stay, apologies. Assure you this is not our usual standard and has been addressed. Scaffolding and workmen nearly... More

I was astonished to read the review by the guest who encountered difficulty with the staff. My experience was the complete opposite. I found everyone to be very pleasant and attentive. The reception staff were very welcoming; the housekeeping staff were excellent and invariably had a cheery greeting on passing in the corridors; the bar staff were always available and... More

Thank you for this review which appears to cover all aspects of your stay. A joy to read especially after the previous review. Whist we have a varied team with perhaps different skill levels overall they are excellent and try to ensure our customers needs & expectations are met at all times. A team I am proud to have working... More

It is some months since I visited, and things may have improved since then. This hotel, partly located in an interesting old building, could be brilliant. But it seems incapable of finding enough good staff. Reception seemed to be switched off. Much of the time, there appeared to be no service in the bar or restaurant. If there is a... More

Thank you for this review which is disappointing to read. We can always learn from both good and bad reviews and I will certainly be discussing this with the staff to see what we could have done differently. Would however have appreciated more detail to allow me to address the issues you mention fully. As you can see we have... More

Thank you for this feedback. Previously we have offered a set allowance for guests on an inclusive rate. Recently this was changed and guests now have the opportunity to have three courses from our Brasserie menu choosing from six starters, eleven mains and seven desserts all without any supplement. Cheese like some other additional dishes carry a small supplement Unusual... More

My Husband stayed for a week as part of business training and had been very impressed with the day to day service quality. So when it came to deciding where to stay in the area to attend my brothers wedding in Annan on 20th I left it to my Husband to decide what to book as we required two rooms... More

Wife, in-laws and I had family business to attend to in Dumfries and area. Great weekend package, staff most attentive, rooms clean, restaurant excellent. Staff totally outstanding, a great choice for us. Good base in a quiet area close to town. Highly recommended. Some building work being carried out, not disruptive at all. More
