My partner and I visited the hotel for our evening meal, as we stayed in Glenlossie b&b next door. We both chose to have three courses and both of meals were faultless. This has never happened before as when dining out you can usually find at least one thing wrong but not in this case. If you have a starter... More

Dropped in one night to the Blacks Restaurant while staying next door in a B and B. Opted for the credit crunch option...3 course under a tenner....but only had two....pretty good value if a little bland. (soup, roast pork) Other options on menu looked pretty good value also. Service was good, two young waitress's who knew their job. Premises nice... More

Stopped for dinner-for-2 at this hotel. Very busy and goid atmosphere but they were happy to seat us with no booking. Fillet of Salmon and pasta Arrabiata for main course with no starter and coffee to finish. Very nice overall, quick friendly service and good quality. More

Just stumbled across this place driving through Dumfries looking for somewhere to eat. We opted for the credit crunch Dinner meal which consisted of 3 courses for 9.50 - bargain! The meals were basic but certainly good value for money and the restaurant was busy so obviously popular with the locals. Quick service. More

did not stay at hotel, restaurant is very modern and clean, staff very helpfull. food we found to be average pub standard, could be a bit more flavoursome deep fried potatoes and basic root vegetables lacking imagination. chefs interpretation of tomato concasse served with the poach fish was in fact a tomato and cream sauce. Enjoyed an overnight stay at the Foreign Hotel. Room was fine with everything there. Breakfast was really excellent. I would be pleased to return. More

The twin room was small and cramped, although clean and comfortable enough. The shower-room was so small the door couldn't be opened without hitting the hand basin. And at breakfast you can look forward to orange squash, tinned grapefruit and instant coffee, although the rest was acceptable. And the main course I had in the restaurant was awful. One night... I had booked the accommodation months ago. I was very precise with my booking request but when I arrived at the hotel I was given a single room. I had booked a double room for single occupancy. I was then informed by the owner, rather frostily that I had booked a single. I offered to show him the confirmation while... More
